The Peak District National Park region

The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.

Longnor

The beautiful Peak village of Longnor is located on the Staffordshire Moorlands between the River Dove to the East and the River Manifold to the West, making it an ideal location to see this stunning area. The village has numerous shops, a post office, excellent craft centre and a tea-room, and the village church is also of interest. The old cobbled market square is in the heart of the village and its history can be found on a board outside the market hall that shows the charges that stall holders used to pay. There are historic houses in the area, as well as Alton Towers, with its thrilling rides and lovely gardens and interesting towns that are all just waiting to be discovered.

"fantastic cottage with excellent facilities"

Stayed a week at the cottage and it was excellent was greeted by the owner and told any problems he could be contacted. It was lovely and clean and had everything you could wish for. Including wine and milk in the fridge. Longnor is an excellent base for exploring the white peaks.Great walks from the village to parkhouse and chrome hill.We took our bikes and cycled the manifold way and then took sustrans 54 to hartington and parsley hay where we joined the tissington trail to thorpe and across by road back to waterhouses.Dovedale is lovely as is Bakewell great walk from bakewell to chatsworth .Visited the monsal dale and cycled the monsal trail. Longnor is a lovely village with pubs and a very good fish and chip shop. The packhorse inn at Crowdecote next village is excellent value and very good for bar meals. We had very good weather in march and the scenery from the cottage was stunning. Will definately return and have recommended to others.
