La Grangette, Longeveau
from £76 /night help
Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Part renovation and part newly built, this popular two bed cottage offers character and comfort in abundance. La Grangette is the last of a small cluster of cottages in L'Hammeau, just a couple minutes stroll from Longeveau. Set all on one floor, it accessed by double doors leading in from the private courtyard.
A modern and welcoming kitchen / diner is fully equipped with a fan assisted oven, gas hob, dishwasher, washing machine and all of the utensils you will need for your stay. This opens out onto a living room featuring a double height ceiling in which the original oak beams take pride of place. A large double bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and a walk in wardrobe. The twin bedroom (or double) also has an en-suite.
The peaceful and quiet courtyard is well equipped with BBQ, outside dining and sun-loungers to get the most out of the long summer days. A shaded terrace offers a respite from the sun, which shines on the courtyard for most of the day. The courtyard leads into the shared gardens of L'Hammeau, where guests also benefit from access to the new swimming pool. The pool has a specially enclosed section for our youngest visitors, plus of course the other pools and facilities at Longeveau are only a short stroll away. La Grangette has a private, covered parking space and is suitable for wheelchair access throughout.
Additional beds can be put in some properties for increased accommodation and twin or double combinations can be altered if required. Cots, high chairs and plenty of other baby bits are available if needed. Internet access, wifi and TV (for sports and significant events) are available from the bar, while some cottages have TV / DVDs and wifi.
Please note that we have several other equally charming two-bedroomed cottages on site, as well as a choice of smaller or larger properties.
Longeveau itself is a small hamlet in a beautiful valley designated by the Michelin Guide as 'A Place of Special Beauty'. Within the estate we offer a superb range of facilities to make your holiday as relaxed or enjoyable as you wish it to be. We offer the opportunity for families or groups to socialise with others, or simply appreciate the peace and quite of your own company!
Our 9 hole FFG golf course is a challenge to golfers of all abilities. We have three all-weather tennis courts, a sports barn with compact tennis, basketball etc., a table tennis barn and boules pitch. We have five swimming pools (two heated / three private) plus a children's splash pool and plenty of space to relax in or explore. Golf and tennis coaching is available from local English speaking PGA / CCA qualified professionals.
For our smaller guests we have a play area, a toddlers play area, a secret play house and a crèche that runs throughout the summer. Our restaurant serves great food and shares a terrace with the bar, with south facing views across the grounds and the valley.

The Poitou-Charentes region
The region is known for it's great climate with sun drenched summers, rolling green hills and valleys as far as you can see, and all the history you could ever need. The food and drink is superb and the people are welcoming. The area is a paradise for wine lovers who may wish to visit the numerous chateaux and wine caves on the Bordeaux wine trail.
Local activities range from walking, sight seeing, tree climbing, canoeing, cycling, fishing, or even jet–skiing and quad biking to name but a few. Wine tasting and degustation are of course a staple part of the French experience!
There are a variety of local festivals, fetes and firework displays that take place throughout the summer in the local villages and towns. These are aimed at all ages and generally take place between the months of June and September.
Children will find plenty to occupy themselves and their families with activities ranging from crazy golf, horse riding and tree top adventure's to daytrip's to the popular attractions of Aqualand Water Park, La Palmyre Zoo and Futurescope.
Longeveau is fortunate to have a number of very good restaurants in the area, ranging from cafés to fine dining. As with everything, our staff will be happy to recommend or help you with decisions or to make reservations for you.
Longeveau is located on the Charente / Dordogne border in a beautiful valley in rural South West France. Nearby villages are full of activity, with places to visit, dine and drink. The picturesque old Roman town of Aubeterre, which was recently listed as one of the prettiest villages in France is only a bike ride away. Wander up through the winding streets to the 12th century subterranean church carved out of the rock or enjoy a drink on the village square with it's variety of shops, eateries and museums, all overlooked by a 1000 year old chateau. Alternatively walk down to the river beach for a swim, relax or a bite to eat.
Slightly further are the market towns of Chalais and Riberac (with one of the biggest markets in France!). Further still, about a 45 minute drive, are the capital towns of Angouleme and Perigeux which offer a wider and more sophisticated range of shops in a typically French setting. Brantome, nicknamed the 'Venice of Perigord' is well worth a visit at a similar distance.
Also within easy reach are towns such as St. Emilion, Bergerac, Cognac and Bordeaux, all famous for their wines and spirits and equally beautiful places to visit. Beyond Bordeaux are the unspoilt beaches of the Atlantic coast with several superb resorts all within a reasonable drive.
