The Living Room

Apartment | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4

Key Info
  • Nearest beach 7 km
  • Suitable for children over
  • Car not necessary
  • No pets allowed

Note: Harstad is not really in the Lofoten Islands, but in the vicinity. For some reason I am not able to choose Harstad as city for this listing on Tripadvisor, only Lofoten. I guess this is a temporary bug with Tripadvisor, and I will try to correct this as soon as possible.

However Harstad is the biggest city in close vicinity to Lofoten (2 hour drive to Svolvær, 4 hour drive to Å where the Lofoten road ends). Biggest airport in the area means you can get here on international flights (Harstad/Narvik Airport, Evenes).

The space is small and cozy, but can still fit 4 people in its 2 rooms. The place has immediate access to all facilities you'll need in "little big" Harstad.

The apartment is 32 square meters in total. That's small if you are 4 full-grown adults. For comparison, you can think of the apartment as two small hotel rooms with a shared bathroom. A travelling family with 2 teenagers or younger should be fine. Please note the sleeping sofa in the the living room, converting it into another sleeping room at night.

Rooms:

1 livingroom with sleeping couch (~20 m2)

1 bedroom with small double bed (~10 m2)

1 bathroom (~2 m2)

Beds:

120x200 cm (double bed in bedroom, suitable for 2 small adults up to 180 cm / 5'9")

140x200 cm (couch made queen size in livingroom, suitable for adults).

60x200 foldable mattress is available in any case.

You will have free access to:

-Beds (incl. bed linens)

-Balcony (shared with 1 other apartment)

-Parking

-Shower/WC (incl. hair dryer and lots of towels)

-Washing machine (NB no tumble dryer)

-Refrigerator

-Cooking plates and small (40 cm) oven

-Digital drumkit and guitar (!)

-Wi-fi via 3G internet

-Norwegian Cell Phone (local rates apply)

-50" screen (NB no channels - only Netflix)

-27" screen (for work on desk)

Logistics:

5 mins walk to the "Hurtigruten" pier

4 mins walk to the "Hurtigbåt" (fast boat) pier

4 mins walk to the bus station

2 mins walk to the "Flybussen" (airport bus)

2 mins walk to the Harstad University College

ACCESSIBILITY:

The house was built in 1922, but renovated in 2004. It has a good standard, but means the apartment is not usable for wheelchair users. 2 pretty steep stairs to get up to the apartment from ground level. The bathroom is narrow (84 cm) so big guests might be better off at a different place. Access to bathroom is through the bedroom.

ALLERGIES:

If you are critically allergic, I'd suggest a hotel. But let me know if you've got mild allergy, and I'll do what I can to make it good enough for you.

NOISE:

Because of the pub across the street, you can expect some "party noise" in the weekends. Also normal "traffic rumble" during rush hours.

Harstad has some attractions of its own. Highlights are:

-The Adolf Cannon was built by the Germans during WW2, and is the biggest land-based cannon in the world.

-Anna Rogde is the world's oldest sailing schooner - she sails around the Harstad harbor in the summertime

-Trondenes church is one of Norway's best preserved medieval stone churches - with roots from the 11th century.

Lofoten

Harstads famous "Grottebadet" (loosely translated to "The Grotto Bath") is a water park inside the mountain and fun for the whole family. It's around 2 mins of walking from here.

Just across the street is the well-known "Nordlændingen" pub and "Steak House" restaurant.

4 mins walk to the "Hurtigbåt" (fast boat) pier
