The Austrian Alps / Salzburgerland / Salzburgerland region

During any family vacation in the Saalach Valley, sports and nature are at the heart of your programme. Outings which allow you and your children to explore the impressive mountains of the SalzburgerLand. Let us not forget those countless caves and waterfalls!
In the area which immediately surrounds "Haus Lena" are the imposing peaks of the Loferer and Leoganger Steinberge ranges. They, along with the other highlights of the Pinzgau countryside, promise all kinds of grand adventures during your family getaway in St Martin. The Saalach, famous as a canoeing river for the pros, flows through this valley and invites you to experience adventures of every kind. For the bigger kids, a rafting tour with expert guides is a real highlight.
The Vorderkaser Gorge is a natural monument which has to be seen to be believed. For thousands of years, a stream has been eating its way down into the rock. Today’s gorge is some 400 metres long, 80 metres deep and six metres wide. Via board walks and stairways, you and your children can explore this natural spectacle. The Seisenberg Gorge near by is a 600 metres-long gorge and can be toured in about one hour. This beautiful natural feature also serves as a starting point for numerous hikes in the SalzburgerLand.
As a poor-weather alternative, there is nowhere better than Lamprecht’s Cave. The public section of this enormous cave system can be explored via walkways, which means this excursion is also ideal with kids. It pushes some 700 metres into the mountain, with visitors having to tackle around 70 vertical metres during their walk. With a total length of some 51 kilometres, the Lamprechtshöhle is one of the world’s most extensive cave systems.
The Local ski resort of Lofer is a great place to spend your winter holiday or a short distance away are the alternative resorts of Steinplatte and Saalbach Hinterglemm.
The Lofer / St Martin bei Lofer area
Within easy reach of "Haus Lena" you will find a number of well marked walks catering for all levels of fitness from a nice gentle stroll along the river Saalach to an all day climb up one of the local mountains. We will be able to advise and point you in the right direction.
There are also numerous cycle ways including mountain biking. For those not minding the cold wet mountain waters white water rafting is a must. Other local attractions are the many waterfalls, gorges and caves. For those who need the bustle of the city, Salzburg with its castle, zoo and many other points of interest are within easy reach by bus. Within a short walk you are at the local out door swimming pool with plenty to keep both children and adults entertained for hours. Other activities found locally are horse riding, archery.
For our winter guests the ski bus will take you to the bottom of the slopes within a 5 minute ride, in the evenings why not try the floodlit langlauf course. Within the Village of St Martin you will find 5 different restaurants offering local home made menus.
