The Languedoc-Roussillon / Herault region
This region, Languedoc, is France's best kept secret, where you'll find the rural France you've always dreamed of. Sleepy villages of sun-warmed stones and red tiled roofs unspoilt by mass tourism, magnificent scenery ideal for rambles on foot or horseback amongst herb scented hills, with deep gorges tumbling into cool, inviting rivers.
If you can tear yourself away from such over-abundance of nature's generosity, there are many local places of interest nearby. Or an hour's drive takes you to splendid Roman towns such as Avignon, Nîmes, Arles to the east, stunning Carcassonne and the Cathar castles to the west. For a touch of true French sophistication, Montpellier offers the arts, theatre, shopping, an international airport and train station. The Spanish border is only 1.5 hours' drive.
This is France’s largest, up-and-coming wine producing region and there are many opportunities to taste its excellent wines at private domains and cave co-operatives throughout
Lodeve area
Lodève, a bustling medieval market town is just 5 minutes’ drive. It has shops, supermarkets, a good choice of restaurants, a large weekly street market, bike hire and a museum with excellent exhibitions throughout the year.
You can walk to town (about 10 minutes downhill along a track) to easily access the town’s restaurants. If you don’t feel like walking back up, you can order a taxi to take you home!
Explore the surrounding countryside and you'll discover tiny stone-built hamlets tucked away or clinging to the side of a steep hill, forests of chestnut and pine trees, meandering mountain streams. Then a medieval village will suddenly appear, with narrow, cobbled streets and beautiful stone buildings, sometimes dominated by a fortified chateau.
There are famous underground caves to visit, dolmens, menhirs and prehistoric sites to discover and weird rock formations abound. You’ll come across a farm from time to time where the owner will sell you goats cheese made on the premises, some honey perhaps flavoured with wild thyme and even fois gras or preserved duck.
On the wild Larzac plain to the north, are well-preserved, fortified 15th century villages such as La Couvertoirade, built by the Templar and Hospitaliers Knights. Take a whole day or more to explore them along the specially marked route.
Let the crowds flock to the beach – you won’t have to travel far to find cool river swimming with a spot all to yourself. For swimming, windsurfing and non-motorised water sports, Lac Salagou is popular with French families enjoying the spectacular scenery.
Brilliant local markets, concerts and festivals year round include truffle and wine fairs. Private wine domaines hold classical concerts in lovely surroundings during the summer - under the stars in a fabulous chateau courtyard or in an atmospheric wine store - followed by wine tastings

Guestbook for Villa les Mimosas
“We are regular visitors to villas & apartments in France and we have to say this is one of the most beautiful ones we have stayed in. The facilities in the villa were great”.
“Superb villa…..it so well equipped with everything you could want or need”.
“Many thanks for organising the Villa Les Mimosas. We had a fantastic stay with great weather only wish we could have stayed for two weeks!!
The villa was even better that we had ever expected and it truly is a first class property. Everything is clean and modern with everything you could possibly need. The air conditioning was such a bonus as the week was extremely hot. The views were outstanding.
Lodeve itself had everything you could possibly need for your holiday - including English newspapers available on the same day as published from 11 am. All other food and shopping requirements were available and most open on Sunday morning. The supermarket (Super U) is certainly well stocked and there was no need to travel any further.”
