About the home

This cottage offers the perfect location for the Ultimate Total RELAX. Ideally suited for couples wanting to get away from it all.

The famous Buddhist centre at Lerab Ling is close by, as well as the beautiful LangueD'Oc countryside and coastline.

The historic cities of Montpellier, Agde and Beziers are a short drive away, and for people aiming for the mediterranean beaches you could not be better placed.

The region offers well marked walks of varying difficulties, and the Lac du Salagou with it's host of water sport facilities is only a few minutes away. For outdoor types, there are unlimited fishing, horse-riding, cycling and golfing facilites nearby.

For nature lovers, this part of Herault offers a particular wealth of landscapes with diverse flora and fauna - ideal of picnicking.

Newly renovated cottage which retains many original features, such as exposed stone and beams and a beautiful exterior stone staircase. The interior has been finished recently to a very high standard and offers a fully equipped kitchen/diner on the ground floor. Access to the charming lounge/bedroom is via the external staircase and offers stunning views from the sun terrace. The interior 'feel' is very mediterranean and offers a calm and romantic hideaway for a perfectly relaxing holiday in the southern French sun.

The private landscaped garden, within a larger shared garden (2 acres), leads down to an outdoor pool of 8x4 metres with its own terrace. The views all around are spectacular and the garden is quiet and elegant. The property is not overlooked from any direction and secluded alfresco dining is possible.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Herault region

The historic area of Languedoc-Roussillon has been attracting visitors since before the Romans. The Emperor Nero had the coins minted here to pay for his soldiers from the silver which was mined just outside Lodeve.

The climate is typically Mediterranean. Long, hot summers with cicadas singing their love songs in the umbrella pines.

The Lodeve / Les Plans area

Lodeve is a fascinating ancient town. Once walled and controlled by the church. The Cathedral of St Fulcran dates from the 13th century and is adjoined by the stunning bishops' palace and park - which now houses the Mairie and public park. Bishops have reputedly included George (of the Dragon fame) and Bernard Gui (immortalised by Umberto Eco in his book the Name of the Rose).
Miracles have happened here in town and dinosaurs have walked around it.

The Museum Fleury of Lodeve is one of the most renowned museums in France with a permanant collection of Paul Darde's work and works by well known impressionists. Visiting exhibitions attract visitors from all over Europe.

Lodeve is also the nearest town to Lerab Ling. This is the largest Tibetan Buddhist Temple and Teaching Centre in Europe, and the Dalai Lama will be making his second visit here later this summer.

Lodeve is perfectly located for countryside and seaside trips out. While the town itself hosts a series of colourful events throughout the summer, in particular. In July the world famous poetry festival of the Voix de la Mêditerranée happens each year at the end of July. There is a Saturday weekly market in the town which has been happening regularly since the 10th century.

Ryanair have daily flights to montpelier,carcassonne,rodez , bezier capd'agde and nimes,all within 11/2hours driving time.Ryanair are very reasonable for fly drive,as are Easy jet,early booking is recommended. Lodeve is easy to get to by car from all directions thanks to a new link up via the a75,and the recent Millau bridge access from the North.
Montpelier can also be accessed by train [tgv high speed] with a 3 hour journey time from paris possible.

“A relaxing stay at a charming gite with a great host.” What can we say - Le Mazet was just the break we were looking for. We arrived quite late in the evening and Bob came to greet us and show us round the property, making us feel immediately welcome and feeling welcome was a trend that continued throughout our stay. The well presented Gite was clean throughout on arrival and had everything in terms of furniture, appliances, utensils etc. we could have asked for as well as a BBQ and a couple of bikes. The sofa bed was the most comfortable one we had ever slept on and the thick stone walls meant the gite was just the right temperature. Lodeve is a charming town typical of the area and has a great market and there are many other towns, beautiful countryside and the coast quite close by and Le Mazet was a great base for going and visiting places and then coming back to the quiet.

“Tranquil and beautiful” Le Mazet is a property with lots of character. It is clean and well equipped for everything that you may need for self catering including a bbq. Bob, the owner, is extremenly welcoming and helpful with handy tips on places to see, activites and the best food places in the area. Bikes which are always available were great to explore. Lodeve is close enough to use the facilities but you are far enough away to relax and enjoy the quiet. It is a fab location to explore the region, we came for outdoor activites but wanted to see more and more of the historical sights. Far too much to see and do in the week that we had. Would come back.

“Our best holiday together to date” On arrival at Le Mazet the owner, Bob, gave us a warm welcome and was ready with advice throughout our stay with tips on places to visit and eat. The cottage was spotlessly clean and had all the utensils and facilities we needed for our self catering stay. We had exclusive use of the pool which adjoins Le Mazet and the owner's property and the pool is shaded from view on all sides. We had a very relaxing and peaceful stay and would definitely recommend Le Mazet. Additionally Lodeve is in a good position to explore the region and we particularly enjoyed our day in Carcassonne.

“The perfect, relaxing getaway” My partner and I enjoyed the excellent hospitality, accommodation and surroundings of La Mazet. The cottage is quaint yet comfortable, making a perfect base for cycling and exploring the nearby picture-esque villages. The pool is clean and secluded, and the bikes, (which are included), are the perfect way to get around. Would thoroughly recommend!
