About the home

The house has been comfortably furnished to provide excellent family holiday accommodation. The house is situated in a quiet residential area away from major roads within a ten minute walk of the town centre of Lodeve.

The full sized pool is kidney shaped measuring 7m x 3 m with Roman steps. The surround is fully tiled or decked. Sun loungers, deck chairs, table and chairs for dining, hammocks and a gas barbeque are all provided. The garden area is planted with colourful Mediterranean shrubs and has plenty of play area for children. Plenty of parking on the drive which is well off the road.

The large ground floor living area has a sofa and sofa bed for overnight guests and arm chair seating for eight. There is a television with free to view UK channels, also a CD and separate DVD player. The dining area has table and chairs for eight. Both the dining and living area opens via French windows onto the balcony area, perfect for wining and dining with views across Lodeve to the hills beyond. The modern fitted kitchen equipment includes electric oven, hob, and fridge/freezer. There is a separate utility room which houses the washing machine.

There are three double bedrooms. Two bedrooms on the ground floor and one on the first floor with it's own balcony, two of the bedrooms including the first floor bedroom have en suite shower rooms with WC. There is also a separate family bathroom with WC on the first floor.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Herault region

The Languedoc stretches from the Rhone Valley to the Spanish border and eastern Pyrenees, from the spectacular Massif Central mountain range, through hills and plains carpeted with vines and olive groves to the Mediterranean’s beaches and lagoons full of oyster and mussel beds. This rich diversity ensures that there is something to suit all tastes and interests.

The area is steeped in history from the Cathar Castles in the Pyrenean foothills to the Crusader towns of Aigues Mortes and Le Couvertorade. The Roman towns of Nimes, Arles, Narbonne and Avignon are all within a days drive. The medieval town of St Guilham le Desert is not to be missed for its fabulous setting and it’s famous abbey.

Swimming in the river at the mouth of the Gorges d’Herault is only a ten minute drive; canoes can be hired on the large sandy beach for breathtaking views as you paddle up the gorge. The beautiful Lake Salagou is twenty minutes away and offers safe bathing, windsurfing, sailing, pedelos, bike hire and horse riding. Sandy beaches on the coast are all within forty minutes drive. Several excellent Golf courses are available in Montpellier, Lamalou les Bains and Beziers.

The varied countryside is a walker’s paradise the footpaths are well marked, local tourist offices provide suggested itineraries to suit all levels of ability. The spectacular limestone rock formations give rise to wonderful gorges and scenery including the Cirque de Navacelles, Cirque de Moureze, Gorge d’Herault and the caves of Clamouse and Desmoiselles.

The sophisticated City of Montpellier is ahaven for shoppers with its ancient narrow streets offering everything from antiques to the best in French Haute Couture. There is an excellent range of restaurants and pavement cafes where you can enjoy being entertained by a wide range of street artists and musicians during the summer evenings. The newly inaugurated tramway system is highly efficient and avoids the need to take your car into the town centre.

Weekly street markets are held in Gignac, Clermont Herault and Pezenas and Lodeve, here you will find an unbeatable array of local produce including olives, cheeses, fruit, vegetables and colourful Provencal textiles. There are also daily markets in Montpellier and a weekly flea market on Sunday mornings.

The Lodeve area

Lodeve is a typical market town with a wide range of shops and restaurants, there is a weekly market on Saturdays as well as a Tuesday evening market during the summer months specialising in local produce. Throughout the summer there are various events including a medieval fair and arts festival. The museum hosts prestigious art exhibitions each summer, past exhibits have included Chagall, Picasso and Magritte.

There is a public outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts, also a cinema which often has English Language films. The area has well marked walking trails suitable for all abilities as well as cycling trails. Lake Salagou is a ten minute drive where you will find safe beaches for bathing as well as bikes, sailing boats and wind surfers for hire. Horse Riding is widely available as there are a number of stables around Lodeve and Lake Salagou.

The Buddhist Temple Lerab Ling is close by and offers various retreats, its spectacular buildings are also available to visit each Sunday afternoon.

“dirty” We booked this villa at the last moment, so some excuses can be made, but we did not expect to find that the villa had not been cleaned for some time prior to our arrival. There was a thick layer of dust on all the surfaces and the floor had not been swept. The beds were not made up. (Maybe this is normal with holiday lettings , which we had not used before?) The owners had left many of their personal toiletries etc around, which gave us the feeling of intrusion. That said, this is a pleasant house in a good position. Response: I was shocked to hear that the house was not cleaned prior to your arrival, I have contacted the owner to find out what went wrong, I can only assume that there was a breakdown in communication between her and the housekeeper. Had you contacted me on arrival I could have arranged for her to come and do a good clean through at your convenience as I only live a few doors away from Notre Niveau. I do try to ensure that the houses I manage are clean and prepared for guests arrival and have not had a similar problem in the past at Notre Niveau and will find out what went wrong to avoid it happening again. The owner also replied 'The housekeeper tells me that she called at the house to put out bedding - she wasn't sure at that time how many rooms were needed so didn't make up the beds. As I had been there recently and always clean before I leave she didn't open the blinds to check. Dust does accumulate quickly out there but I certainly didn't think it could be that quick. The only thing I can think is that a terrace wall had collapsed and the builders were arriving the week after I left to rebuild it and - maybe - that caused the problem. Whatever the reason, it was not appropriate that you arrive to find you have to clean the place. I do provide shower gel and hand wash and people leave sun screen etc which I have left - similarly with some food, teas etc but if this feels intrusive I will ask the housekeeper to ensure she removes things after each let. Thank you for you comments and good luck with your search for a property. I certainly found it challenging!

“Fabulous Villa” Fabulous villa in a fabulous location. The villa is very spacious. Myself and my husband travelled with two teenagers and also had a friend and his son to stay for a few days. There was more than enough room for all of us. The villa is very well equiped. The pool is a very nice size and enough sunbeds for everyone. The main bedroom is on the top floor with a balcony which is the room myself and my husband stayed in. The only downside was that there was no air con and the room was very, very hot at night. The area itself was very sleepy. Restaurants shut fairly early so you defintely need a car if you stay here. Large supermarket very close to the villa and bakeries walking distance. I would 150% recommend this villa to anyone. I would defintely stay here again. Thank you again to the owners!
