The Devon region
Yeo Farm is located in the most southern part of Devon known as the South Hams. The South Hams is famous for its beautiful coast, unspoilt countryside, rugged moorland and award winning beaches - the South Hams has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Farm is surrounded by rolling hills, wooded river valleys, patchwork fields, picturesque villages and sandy beaches. Yeo is ideally situated for those keen on nature and wild life such as bird watching and wildlife photography. Otters, deer & kingfishers are also regularly seen so don't forget your binoculars !
There are a wide variety activities, attractions and sports in the area:
BEACHES - From sandy surf beaches to rock pools and coves, there are beaches for all tastes and pursuits.
Particularly recommended are the surf beaches of Bigbury and Bantham, with surf at one end and rock pools at the other. Also recommended are the award winning Blackpool Sands and the miles of fine pebbles at Slapton Sands. At Salcombe there are the lovely South & North Sands Beaches. Catch the ferry from Salcombe to East Portlemouth and you will be rewarded with more beautiful beaches like Sunny Cove. Bigbury and Blackpool Sands have excellent organic Venus Cafes at which to lunch or grab a coffee. From Bigbury you can go to Burgh Island and eat at the traditional Pilchard Inn.
ADVENTURE PARKS One of the largest in the South West is at Woodlands Adventure Park. This is 20 minutes drive away from the Barn and boasts enough entertainment to keep everyone amused (for a reasonable price) for the day (at least).
BOAT HIRE - For fishing, sailing or leisure can be hired from either Salcombe or Dartmouth.
BOAT TRIPS & FERRIES - run regularly from Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Salcombe across all of the estuaries.
CINEMA - a restored local cinema (the Reel) is running in Kingsbridge.
FISHING - a number of coarse fisheries, game fishing for sea trout and salmon on the River Avon or sea fishing for bass from local beaches/boats. Also short Mackerel trips run out of Salcombe and for the more adventurous, deep sea trips.
GARDE, Abbeys, Castles and Houses - abound, but most notably are the Gardens at Soultram House, the Abbey at Buckfastleigh and Castles at Totnes and Dartmouth.
GOLF - there are several local courses; of special note is the links course at Bigbury, with spectacular cliff views from the course over the Avon Estuary towards Burgh Island
NATURE RESERVES - Slapton Ley is only 20 minutes away, while the Dartmoor National Park is 20 minutes inland and caters for horse riding, canoeing and other outdoor pursuits
STEAM RAILWAYS - at Buckfastleigh along the River Dart and at Kingswear up the Dart Estuary to Paignton
Walks - there are numerous country, woodland and spectacular coastal walks along the cliff tops
There is also a rich and ancient heritage, South Hams market and coastal towns will repay a visit. The towns of Totnes, Dartmouth, Salcombe and Kingsbridge all have a unique character and are well worth exploring. Of particular note are the two towns nearest Auton Cottage; Salcombe can be reached by passenger ferry from East Portlemouth. The town is perched on the cliffs facing Bolt Head and is a world renowned centre for sailing and watersports. Kingsbridge at the top of the estuary is a vibrant market town, with a good variety of local shops, pubs and restaurants.

"Can't wait to visit again!"
Game Keepers is a lovely lodge in a wonderfully secluded spot but within 15-20 minutes of Kingsbridge, Salcombe and the beaches of Bantham, Hope Cove, etc. The lodge is modern throughout with some great luxuries thrown in: jacuzzi bath, two nice bathrooms, log burners, full Sky package. Our three year old loved the place and keeps asking if he can go back to "Yeo Farm" ever since we got home. He loved the trampoline in the garden, searching for fish in the stream near the house, walking along the river or through the woods and playing on the beach near Mackays pool.
Chris, the farm manager, was great and always very helpful and friendly. Its very nice to be offered free logs rather than getting charged extra. The local area has some nice food shops, including the local garden centre, chilli farm and local farm shops. It was so good we've booked again for August.
Looking forward to catching up for a beer and a chat when you return for 2 weeks in August,

"A rear taste of tranquillity, total relaxation & peace of real Devon"
If you are looking to get away from it all this is the place for you.
Great Hospitality from Charles & Chris you couldnt ask for better hosts attending to your evey need.
All The Lodges are great for both couples & families the facilities inside & out were very good & moderen.
Many an evening spent by the Log Burner & in the Jacuzzi.
There are plenty of nice walks within the grounds for dog owners & walkers.
Great location for popping of on day trips to local places like Salcombe this was great for shopping.
We also liked the fact pets are welcome as Poppy enjoyed her Holiday to.

"A wonderful retreat in the Avon Valley"
What a find! Such a beautiful spot off the beaten track but within easy reach of all that the South Hams has to offer. A really warm welcome from the owner and the manager, Game Keepers is a lovely lodge tucked away in a sleepy hollow in the green rolling Devon countryside. Lots of wildlife and fresh air with the river Avon in the garden. Can't wait to return, thanks for a great stay.

"A cracking lodge and wonderful location"
Our family had a cracking week at Game Keepers, fabulous lodge with big comfortable beds and a lovely wood burning stove, logs provided free of charge. The lodge is just across the field from the river avon and there is a lovely camping area beside a swimming hole to have a camp fire and barbeque. The main beaches at Salcombe and Bantham are just a 15-20 minute drive away so you can head back to the lodge in the evening for complete peace and relaxation when the crowds get too much.
We will be coming back to stay again but will be booking the main farmhouse as Charles was very kind in letting us have a peek inside it looks fabulous !
