The Brittany region
Penderff Forge and Penderff Cottage(BLA1090) share the same site, in an elevated position overlooking open countryside. Lovingly restored over many years by the English owners. The local village of Bignan(3k) has local shopping and the celebrated restaurant of La Chouanniere. Locmine (8k) has more extensive shopping and is on the N24 expressway which will give you fast access to the coast, the famous town of Josselin. The Napoleonic town of Pontivy and the city of Vannes are about 30 minutes drive, so you are well placed for an excellent touring holiday.
The river is navigable to Pontivy where it joins the Nantes Brest canal, with relaxing boat trips or canoe hire for the more energetic.
For those who walk or cycle the tow path can be followed throughout its length, and if this is still too energetic the river has the reputation as being one of the best coarse fishing rivers, including salmon and trout, in France, (permit required).
