Most sports are catered for within striking distance, if you have a specific query ask
The Gretna area, the Township was built at the turn of the century, for what was the largest factory complex in the world, to manufacture Cordite for the first world war, but was abandoned within three years of its opening
But the legacy of the buildings. and the architecture remain.
The Lockerbie / Kirkpatrick Fleming area
Kirkpatrick-Fleming was famous for its sandstone quarries, 300 men were employed in 1880 in quarrying, the stone was used to build Silloth Docks for the Carr milling family from Carlisle, which was used for the import of wheat from North America.
Sandstone from local quarries was used to build the Albany building in New York, the story of the million dollar staircase, where natives to this area travelled out on ships to work on this project.
