THINGS TO SEE AND DO
North Uist is a stunning blend of beaches, machair lands and freshwater lochs.
The beaches on North Uist are made of white sand and turquoise water. There are too many beaches on the island to visit in one week and information on the best ones can be found in our cottage. It is not unusual to be the only ones on a 2km white sandy beach here in the middle of summer.
Bird watching and wildlife
There is an abundance of wildlife on the island including, corncrakes, hopper swans, sea eagles, short eared owls, whooper swans, red deer, sea otters, harbour porpoises, grey seals, common seals, boat trips to see basking sharks, pilot whales, dolphins and killer whales can be arranged.
There are two main bodies that manage the Lochs on the island and further information can be found on their websites below.
We have books and information in the cottage about walks on the island.
All the food supplies and fuel you require for a week's stay can be bought from local shops on the island and information on places to eat out can be found in the cottage.
You will find the main Tourist Information Centre for North Uist close to the ferry terminal in Lochmaddy. It is a good place to stop and find out about events and activities taking place in the islands. The small town of Lochmaddy has a bank and cash machine, a general store and gift shop, a doctor's surgery, an arts centre and an outdoor centre where you can experience such activities as rock climbing, sea kayaking and scuba diving.
