Home description

The privately run caravan is situated on the edge of a new small holiday park, and there is a sea view from the panoramic lounge window. Well equipped and connected to mains electricity, water and drainage; also bottled gas for hot water and cooking. The two bedrooms give good privacy, with the smaller second bedroom having two single beds that can be pushed together to make a double, and with a small single bunk bed over the top (across the way). There is ample lounge sofa space for a child to sleep in addition to the 4 adults. Good sized shower room (with seat in the shower!), and full sized cooker. Grass around the caravan for barbecues, lounging and playing. Beach within 5 minutes walk.

More details about the caravan park can be viewed at the park owners' website, which can be provided on request. They also rent out caravans if ours is not available for your holiday dates.

The Highlands region

The North West Highlands of Scotland are stunning and unspoilt. The Sutherland mountains are highly photogenic and unique because of the surrounding terrain of sea and freshwater lochs and everyone who sees Suilven, Stac Polly or Canisp in almost any weather conditions remembers the area for the rest of their lives (and returns time and time again). The coastal area around Clachtoll is renowned for its white sandy beaches contrasted by red stone cliffs, and wildlife is second to none. The geology of the region is the most varied of anywhere in the United Kingdom, and there are a number of rarer birds including divers, ducks and shearwaters. Minke whales and dolphins can be seen from the beach and the Stoer peninsula. The area is well known as the first crofting community to purchase their own land, and there is an active Local Historical Society that provides information on 19th century electoral rolls (for those researching their ancestors).

Lochinver / Clachtoll area

Clachtoll is a small crofting community with a camp site and no shops, and it is a location for a get away from it all holiday. Lochinver, however, just 7 miles away, reached by a twisting road with amazing scenery, has good shops and several bars/restaurants. The coastal road via Drumbeg going north is one of THE outstanding motoring experiences that Scotland can offer. Handa Island, the RSPB reserve is within an easy day trip, which includes crossing the Kylesku bridge, where a boat trip can be taken to Britain's highest waterfall and to its most remote gardens. In the southerly direction, the Hydroponicum at Achiltibuie is also accessible in a day's trip, and this journey takes in another of the most amazing roads in the United Kingdom.

How to get there

- Travel to Inverness by train or plane and hire a car, or drive to Inverness
- Cheap flights available from Easyjet.co.uk from Luton, Gatwick or Belfast
- Good car hire available from Sharps Reliable Wrecks or from international companies
- Clachtoll is approximately 100 miles from Inverness in a north westerly direction. The roads are good and the route goes through outstanding scenery
