About the home
The restful tranquillity of the west coast is exemplified in the remote Highland village of Drumbeg. This beautifully maintained bungalow was built in the late 1990's as a retreat for an artist and his family. It is thoughtfully designed and tastefully decorated with his and other artists' work. The large picture window in the lounge has an inspiring outlook to the sea and coastal hillside. There is a pretty garden where visitors can sit out and enjoy the peaceful scenic surroundings.
The house is situated on the edge of the village, offering seclusion, but the shop, restaurants, tea room and hotel bar are less than 5 minutes walk away.

The Scottish Highlands region

The Highlands of Scotland offer visitors some of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas of the United Kingdom and the jewel in the crown is the stunning north west. With clear blue sea, white crystal sandy beaches, innumerable inland lochs (lakes) and a backdrop of soaring mountains, you are never far from a vista to capture on your camera, or a quiet water to challenge your fishing skills.
Each day, you can select from a variety of coastal or inland walks, offering the chance to see wildlife, ranging from whales, basking sharks, dolphins, seals and otters on the water, and an amazing array of birds of prey in the air and deer, badgers and highland cattle on land.
As you would expect from country so closely connected to the sea, fresh sea-food is readily available in local cafes and restaurants, and sometimes you can buy crabs and prawns direct from the locals for an extra special treat.
The mountains of Assynt offer a variety of grades of walking and cycling to match all abilities, but all share stunning panoramas. The North West Highlands Geopark was designated to highlight the scientific importance of the underlying geological features. At 3,000 million years old, some of the rocks are the oldest in
Britain and are often dotted with visiting university students armed with geology hammers, collecting specimens of the fascinating Moine Thrust. An interpretive centre and many road-side information boards are spread throughout the area.
The Lochinver / Drumbeg area
Travelling on the single track road to Drumbeg is like taking a step back in time and the local area offers endless pursuits for all the family.
The village of Drumbeg (50 residents) offers two thriving hotels, one with a public bar, an award winning shop/deli and a delightful tea-room. Tigh a Garadh Beag is 5mins walk from all these amenities, but still manages to feel secluded.
The nearest mountain, Quinag (808m,) is an amazing day out and offers great walking and climbing. Guided fishing and shooting can be arranged locally, and three stunning beaches at Achmelvich, Clashnessie and Clachtoll are a short drive away.
The nearest substantial village to Drumbeg is Lochinver, a 16mile journey on a charming single track road with many beautiful views and the beaches en route. Lochinver is the transport and communications hub for the district and has the nearest petrol station and bus terminus, linking to Ullapool, the south or the islands ferry. The Lochinver Tourist Information Centre provides information about hunting, fishing, walking, cycling and a wide variety of other outdoor pursuits and day trips. It also has an excellent sports centre/internet cafe.
