Three miles from Lochinver and 35 miles north of Ullapool. The chalets are an ideal base for a range of activities including hill walking, loch, river and sea fishing, wildlife and bird watching. The area is one of outstanding beauty with spectacular scenery, beautiful unpolluted beaches, mountains, rivers and lochs.

It is an ideal base for a family or couples wanting to enjoy the 'Highlands' experience. So, whether you have just climbed Suliven or been bird watching on Handa Island or just fancy a break to to relax and escape from it all, Kirkaig chalets is the place for you!

The self-catering chalets are decorated to a high standard, lending a cosy and comfortable atmosphere and surroundings for a unique holiday experience on the North-West coast of Scotland. Kirkaig Chalets are the perfect place to unwind from the stresses of everyday life. Chalets sleep a maximum of 4 persons per Chalet

Chalets are fenced off and can be entered via a gate with private parking. The chalets have a picnic bench and also 4 garden chairs for dining out of doors with an uninterrupted view from the balcony of the beautiful bay of Inverkirkaig. There is also a grassed area which is fenced off around the chalets and a rotary clothes drier at the back.

The Scottish Highlands region

The North West Highlands of Scotland offer some of the most stunning sightseeing opportunities in the UK. Kirkaig Chalets are situated within the remote unspoilt beauty of Assynt Coigach National Scenic Area. There are many coastal walks and remote sandy bays, giving you the chance to discover the sea-life that inhabit the coastal waters warmed by the gulf stream.

Minke whales, dolphins, basking sharks and seals are not uncommon. Spectacular mountains waiting to offer you the most beautiful panoramas, with walks or climbs for all grades. Sunsets are a speciality in this rural and remote part of the world. Geologically the area has the oldest rocks and the highest waterfall in the UK, and is just oozing history and legends.

The Lochinver area

Lochinver is the nearest village three miles away from the Kirkaig Chalets. It is a delightful fishing village on the rugged coastline of the Scottish Highlands and it settles amidst the spectacular scenery of Sutherland’s wild dramatic countryside, of high cliffs, waterfalls and hills.

The Assynt Hills are reported to be the oldest in Britain and contain some of the great mountains of the North such as Suilven, Canisp, Quinag and Ben More Assynt. Boat trips to Handa Island bird sanctuary or to the Summer Isles. Or you could visit the bone caves at Inchnadamph or try caving in our ancient cave system. Information regarding all types of fishing and all grades of walking and climbing, along with additional information on activities like cycling, kayakking, adventure days or day trips are available from the award winning tourist information centre in Lochinver.

There is a leisure centre with gym and internet access in Lochinver and a swimming pool complex in Ullapool. The local village hall provides live music from time to time and doubles as a theatre. There are restaurants to suit all in Lochinver from the award-winning, and now Michelin 1 star, Albannach Hotel to a value for money pub - Caberfeidh. In all there are 3 hotels with restaurants, a pub with restaurant and the highly recommended Lochinver Larder with Riverside Bistro. There are also some very good eating places in the surrounding area; to the north there is the Kylesku Hotel and to the south The Altnacealgach Bar & Restaurant. You will find a petrol station, pubs, shops and a supermarket in Lochinver too.

To the north of Lochinver there are several Brochs and cairns of great historic interest with perhaps the biggest broch being at Clachtoll, on the sea coast to the south of Stoer beach. Amidst the dramatic coastline of Sutherland can be found the clear white sandy beaches at Achmelvich, Clachtoll and Clashnessie.

The scenic town of Ullapool is under an hours drive away where you can take the 3 hour ferry to Stornoway or visit the Summer Isles.

Two hour drive or bus from Inverness airport or Inverness railway /bus station. Car hire is available from the airport or railway /bus station, with most national companies.

If driving, take the road to Ullapool from Inverness, then North to Lochinver from Ullapool. Kirkaig Chalets are located 3 miles outside Lochinver. Drive through the town and take a left at the lights before the bridge leading to the harbour and follow the single track road. The chalets are in the middle of the bay at Inverkirkaig (NB. If using in-car satellite navigation, please include 'via Lochinver' in the destination details or the system will indicate the very picturesque Achiltibuie B-road direction which is precarious in parts.)

If flying, fly to Inverness & there will be car hire available at the airport. You can get the train to Inverness and buses also travel between Inverness, Ullapool and Lochinver.
