The Central Scotland/Strathclyde region

This area of Scotland is known as Argyll, and is renowned for its wild and rugged scenery. Peppered with sea and inland lochs and miles of often remote coastline, it is a favourite area for visitors from all over the world.

Driving through the historic towns brings a variety of interesting curio shops, museums, places to eat and visitor attractions. Popular places include the living museum at Inveraray Jail, Inveraray Castle, the underground power station at Loch Awe, take a cruise on Loch Lomond or try Quad Biking at Quadmania overlooking Loch Long.

The area is also renowned for its food and produce, with Loch Fyne Oysters being just half an hour from Lochgoilhead, as well as the microbrewery Fyne Ales where you can visit their tap room and have a brewery tour.

Argyll offers a truly great variety of places to go and things to do.

Lochgoilhead

Email us for a copy of our 17 page Destination Guide for Lochgoilhead. It covers everything you need to know about what is happening in the village as well as activities, restaurants, walks and touring in the area. There is much to tell about this special place. It is updated to make sure all the details are accurate.

Lochgoilhead, although only around an hour's drive from Glasgow, has a remote, relaxed feel to it. Situated within the Loch Lomond National Park, the village is a paradise for walkers, water sport enthusiasts, those who love 'the great outdoors', and those who are just looking for somewhere to crash out!

Due to the fact the village is at the end of the road, there is very little through traffic, couple this with good amenities at the local hotels leisure centre, the village is very popular with young families during the traditional holiday periods. The village has also become popular with retirees, many who visit to enjoy the tranquillity, or have retired to the area, often having enjoyed decades of memorable holidays in the village.

While some never leave the glen during their stay, many use the village as base to explore the west coast, either down through the Kintyre Peninsula, or further west to the Oban area. Just over one hour north is magnificent Glencoe which was the Scottish setting in the latest Bond film, Skyfall, as well parts of the Harry Potter movies.

Whatever your choice, active or relaxed, Lochgoilhead is a wonderful place that often captures the hearts of those who visit.

"What a Gem!"

Quick and efficient to book with clear and precise information from the owner, this is a really charming, cosy cottage. It is incredibly well equipped and the flat screen TV has a small surround sound system which makes all the difference! It is superbly positioned with views over the lock and right next door the Goil Inn. There are two shops - one small store beside the Goil Inn and a small supermarket about five minutes' walk. Between the two you can get everything you need. The main drawback is the lack of hanging space - limited to four or so hooks, but there is a set of drawers and several shelves within a contained unit. The big bonus? A Tempur memory foam mattress - absolute luxury and a superb night's sleep :-)

"Very comfortable"

Stayed here at the end of August for 5 nights. Lovely cottage, extremely comfortable, well equipped. Not great storage in bedrooms - main bedroom has a large chest of drawers but absolutely nowhere… More

Thank you for posting such a positive review. There is a laminated Quick Intro Guide to Stable Inn Cottage covering the very points, and more, that you have raised. It should have been available for you. I shall make sure a new one goes in today.

"Perfect"

We stayed here the week of New Year, and we couldn't fault it in anyway. The location was perfect, right in the village and the Goil Inn is right next door for food, live music and lovely cosy pub. The front door is glass and it looks right on to a view of the Loch. Very nice to wake up to every morning.

We had a 2 year old with us and there was loads of games and toys for him to play with. The bedrooms were a great size, the bigger bedroom had a king size bed and a small infant bed. The beds were very comfy! The full size kitchen and dining table were great for eating in.

Will definitely use this house again.
