Le Heron 2 is part of the 'Le Cormier' holiday facility which is close to the popular medieval town of Loches and is situated on the outskirts of the small village of Obterre (has a bar and small shop) on the northern tip of the beautiful ‘Brenne Parc Naturel Regional’, known as the “Land of a Thousand Lakes” - the whole area is quite simply a wildlife and bird-watchers paradise in this relatively unspoilt area of the Berry / South Touraine area of the Loire Valley.

It is very easy to relax in this tranquil and peaceful setting, surrounded by an abundance of wildlife and trees but with many local attractions to keep you occupied. We are ideally located for the famous chateaux of the Loire, vineyards (closest 9km), churches, museums, Futuroscope and, of course, surrounded by sleepy medieval towns. The rolling landscape makes it an ideal locality for cycling and walking enthusiasts alike.

Le Heron 2 studio has a compact but comfortable living area comprising main living, dining, sleeping area with adjoining kitchenette, and separate toilet / shower room with wash-hand basin & electric heated towel rail.
The kitchenette is equipped with combined sink, drainer and double electric hob, also having cupboard space and wall shelving units for storage, a small electric oven, microwave, refridgerator, electric kettle, cups, saucers, glasses, cutlery, pots & pans along with coffee maker and toaster.

The dining table has 2 chairs (more are available if needed), and there are 2 single lounge chairs and a coffee table.

An electric convector heater provides warmth for the living area in case of chilly nights and the studio is equipped with TV (with UK Terrestial Satellite), DVD player and Radio/CD player.

1 Double bed is normally provided but we can offer alternative options of single beds if requested. There are other permutations subject to availability of collapsible Z Beds (either single or double).

Small bedside cabinets, table lamps, chest of drawers and an integrated wardrobe and storage cupboard.
Visitors receive a welcome pack containing local information, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, wine, washing up liquid etc.

Towels, tea towels and toilet rolls provided free of charge. Change of bedding after one week

We welcome children although would point out there are limited on-site facilities to keep them fully occupied.
The 5m above ground splash pool is shared with all visitors, including some of our small 12 pitch campsite visitors as well.

The Loire Valley / Indre-et-Loire region

The Loire Valley area is popular with visitors for so many reasons, whether it be the number of majestic and famous chateaux, or for its famous wines & vineyards, rolling countryside, beautiful rivers, sleepy towns and villages, wonderful eating places.... and of course its mild climate.

The verdant countryside is ideal for those who enjoy exploring the countless 'treasures' in the area whether that be on foot, bike or motor vehicle. Within a relative easy driving distance are a wealth of popular visitor attractions to be found in this beautiful part of France, the majority of roads and lanes being usually quiet with very little traffic making it an absolute pleasure not only for driving, but also for cyclists and walkers alike.

If you wish to visit some of the Chateaux, you will be spoilt for choice because there are just so many world famous ones & steeped in history - a few examples: Chambord, Chenonceau, Valencay, Villandry, Amboise or closer to us are Loches and Azay-le-Ferron (8km). Attached to the majority are wonderful gardens.

For those wishing to taste the Loire Valley wines, again the choice is immense and a visit to a Cave is not only interesting but you will normally be able to have a tasting as well.

If you hanker for more energetic activities, then there is so much to choose from again whether it be cycling, golf, swimming, canoeing, sailing, boating, horse riding, go-karting, tennis etc. The Loire Valley has something for everyone.

The Loches / Preuilly sur Claise area

Obterre is situated on the northern tip of Indre (Department 36 - Pays de Harmonies) within the Brenne National Park and south of the popular atmospheric market town of Loches, with its medieval Chateau, Dungeon, Church and shops.

We are situated on the outskirts of the small village but within easy reach of so many places of interest:
The Brenne Parc Naturel Regional is famous for its 1000+ lakes, making it an ideal location for bird-watchers or for those that enjoy the peace and serenity offered whether strolling or cycling. Worth visiting are ‘La Bellebouche’ with man made-beach; ‘La Gabriere’ in a splendid setting with 2 quality restaurants; the 'Maison du Parc' with visitor & information centre and nearby ‘Etang de la Mer Rouge’. Swimming, fishing, sailing pedalos and boating are available on some of the lakes and local rivers.

There are numerous quality restaurants in the locality, whether it be for an affordable 'Plat du Jour', evening meal or even for take-away pizzas.

Vineyards & Wine Tasting – local ones open to the public are in Bossay-sur-Claise (12kms) or travel a little further north to visit the famous Vouvray and so many others along the Loire river.

Local Markets – there are just so many but Loches is always worth a visit on a Saturday & Wednesday. The markets become a must for an excellent range of goods manufactured or grown in the area including local wines, fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, meats and fish.

Golf – local 18 hole courses are at Villedieu & La Roche Posay (20kms) and then a 9 hole course at Verneuil (12kms)

Le Haute Touche (a safari type specialist zoo) is only 6kms away or there is Beauval Zoo at St Aignan, a tremendous day out for all the family.

Futuroscope (76km) – a tremendous day out for all the family and a real treat for all ages, finished off by the evening/night-time spectacular which is a must.

Go-Karting in nearby Chatillon (13kms) is superb and offers some tremendous thrills on an excellent circuit.

“Perfect” We had a great stay and would love to go back. The gite was clean and perfectly suited to our needs, 2 adults and a toddler. The swimming pool was great and the owners Mike and Kath were the perfect hosts, incredibly helpful and knowledgable. The gite was typically French and rustic, we can not recommend this place enough
