About this location

The Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park region

Lochearnhead village sets on the A84 at the foot of Glen Ogle between Stirling and Crianlarich. It is situated at the western edge of Loch Earn and lies within the Breadalbane area of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.

The property is set in a beautiful part of the countryside with so much to do right on your doorstep! Walking and cycling trails are just a matter of minutes from the door. There are mountains surrounding the village to climb or just view from the comfort of the terrace.

The village is a perfect base for so many different holiday makers. Golfers, Bird Watchers, Anglers, Walkers, Hill Climbers to name but a few.

Not far from the property in a village called Balquhidder lays Rob Roy's Grave. A must see for many tourists. A beautiful hidden gem of a village. Perfect to cycle to from the property via the cycle track.

As a great central base for many local villages you will find yourself right at home here. Popular places to visit include:

Falls of Dochart, Killin - Admire the misty spray rising in the air as the waters of the river crash into the rocks then flow around the Islands of Inchbuie, known as the traditional and ancient burial place of Clan Macnab.

Yew Tree, Fortingall - The Fortingall Yew is at the geographical heart of Scotland and stands within Fortingall churchyard. It is thought to be between 3,000 and 9,000 years old and has connections to early Christianity in Scotland. It is also believed to be one of the oldest living things in Europe. In 1769 the circumference of the yew's multiple trunks was measured at 52 ft, but this has vastly reduced over time and what remains are the relics and offshoots of the original tree.

Rob Roy's Grave, Balquhidder - The village attracts many visitors from around the world who come to see the final resting place of Rob Roy, in Balquhidder Kirkyard alongside his wife and two sons.

The Deil's Cauldron Walk, Comrie - The River Lednock cascades out from a rocky gorge in the atmospheric tree-clad amphitheatre known as the Deil's Cauldron. This excellent circular walk from the attractive village of Comrie visits the Cauldron as well as having an optional ascent to the Melville Monument, an obelisk on Dun More hill that is a fine viewpoint.

A couple of minutes walk from the house is Loch Earn. Fantastic for water sports, osprey spotting and fishing.

The local area has a fantastic selection of activities including Auchingarrich Wildlife Park, Blair Drummond Safari Park, Go Ape and Xtreme Carting to name but a few!

There are some unique little shops in the surrounding villages like Flutterbys in Strathyre and Sula just before Balquhidder.

Just 15 minutes away is the famous Monachyle Mhor Hotel where celebrity chef Tom Lewis shows off his talents. Mhor 84 Motel is only 5 minutes by car or a 35 minute walk along the old railway track. It puts on a fantastic gig every Thursday night "Thank folk its Thursday", a must see!! Great food all day long.

There are small supermarkets in Killin and Callander with bigger supermarkets in Perth and Stirling. Don't forget you can always do an on-line shop and have it delivered on the day of your arrival. We are happy to be there to take delivery of your shopping and pop everything away for a small fee.

Prior to your arrival some things can be arranged to help you enjoy a stress free getaway. This includes arranging the following:

"Lovey big house let down by cleanliness and uncomfortable furnishings"

We booked this house for a family Christmas break. On arrival the house was freezing cold (no heating on and instructions hard to work out) and we did think the property would have been left with the … More

We leave all heating in properties on the lowest programme possibly when empty. This kicks in when the property drops below a certain temperature to stop pipes freezing. Instructions for the controller are left by the control panel. These are the original instructions as I feel they are the best ones.
I had told the guests that I would get a tree in the property for their stay and they had said they would like to decorate it themselves as a family event. After checking with insurance/owners/etc I was unable to put a tree in the only place it could go (beside the fire) was too dangerous. The lights would not be PAT tested etc. I did however leave lots of tinsel and hanging decorations of my own in the house for them to make it look a little more festive. I am more hurt than anything over the comment about the Christmas tree. I was not contacted by the person who made the booking and I refuse to answer the phone to listen to abusive and rude people rant at me. I told the guests that I would drop a tree off in the outside store when I was passing which would be late at night. It turned out that I didn't get there until 12.40am – Would they really have liked me to “put my head in the door” at that time? The part I am hurt about most is that the tree I gave them was my own. I told them that the owner was unwilling to put a tree in due to the reasons above but because of what was being said to me I told them I would give them my own tree. I took it down, packed it away and dropped it off. It may well have been “fit for the bin” in their eyes but to me it was perfect and was certainly missed on Christmas day.
I must smile to myself at the “left it cleaner” comment! I personally cleaned the house and I cleaned it the same way that I have cleaned it for all other bookings. The hoover works perfectly well and no other guests have ever mentioned it. There are two windows in the kitchen and on the landing that are velux windows and are very high up. They are nigh on impossible to reach with many things. I am delighted they were able to reach them! The furnishings in the house were all brand new when the house got turned into a holiday home (March 2014) As the property sleeps 8 people we need to provide seating for 8 people within the lounge – two sofas would simply not do this. Sadly it is winter and no where looks perfect at this time of the year outside. It was a week of wind and rain which makes everywhere look that little more dirty. As with the furniture, the mattresses were also all brand new last year (March 2014). As far as I know every person prefers different mattresses (soft, hard, memory foam etc) so it is sometimes difficult to please all guests.
This gentleman mentions that the bins were full of bottles – when I arrived to clean the property on their departure the recycling bin did have glass bottles etc inside as the dustbin men had not been before they arrived to empty it. We ask that if a guests visit includes bin day that they pop the bins out for us. This is all inside the welcome folder left out for guests. I found it very strange though that when I went out of the back door that there were 11 bags of rubbish piled up and the wheelie bin at the front of the property was completely empty! They certainly couldn't have missed it as it was right at the front – they had to walk/drive past it every time they entered the property.
What puzzles me more is that when I contacted the lady who had actually booked the property and also stayed there to mention the problems she said that she didn't know anything about it and that she had enjoyed her time there. Could it be that different people see things differently? That we cannot please different people the same way?

"Practical comfortable family base in Perthshire"

We had a great holiday in Springbank. It's well located for outdoor activities, and in a small quiet street with mature gardens. We enjoyed sitting out and the BBQ facility. It was warm, spacious, and offered flexible accommodation for our party of 8. Everything worked. The wifi was really useful for planning our days out. the house is full of character and the kitchen is modern . there were no complaints suggestions would be mainly around having some more crockery serving dishes etc as with eight people we used up stuff quite quickly The people looking after the house were very helpful

I am so glad you enjoyed your time at Springbank and that you were about to get out and about and enjoy what the surrounding area had to offer.

We love to get feedback from guests so that we can continually improve the property. We had thought that a 12 place setting of crockery along with the dishwasher would be enough but I will certainly add more crockery onto the next shopping spree list.

Many thanks,
