Samhach has been awarded a Trip Advisor Certificate Of Excellence for 2014, we are one of the first holiday lets to achieve this and are extremely proud of this award.

Rosalyn, Graham and our wee son Noah welcome you to Samhach, a one bedroom self contained holiday apartment in Gorthleck, a small village on the north shore of Loch Mhor in Inverness-shire in the Scottish Highlands.

Samhach is approximately 2 miles from Loch Ness, 10 miles from Fort Augustus and 20 miles from the vibrant City of Inverness which has a busy local airport with both easyJet and Flybe flying there from various destinations.

There is an abundance of wildlife here with red squirrels, eagles, deer, pine martins and a variety of birds all on your doorstep and the local area is ideal for walking, fishing, climbing, birdwatching and wildlife.

Or if you prefer you can just sit back, relax and enjoy the fresh air and scenery or cosy up in front of the wood burner.

Samhach is a Gaelic word which translates as peaceful/tranquil which is something we have in abundance here!

The accommodation which is attached to our own property is completely self contained with its own entrance and garden area.

Samhach comprises of one double bedroom with en-suite shower-room and a large built in wardrobe, the living area comprises of an open plan kitchen, dining room and sitting room.

Next to the kitchen and dining area there are duel aspect windows giving views over the hills towards Loch Ness, here you can enjoy beautiful sunsets during the evening.

We offer free wi-fi and this is available to all our guests.

The kitchen is equipped with microwave/grill/oven, gas hob, rotisserie oven, washing machine and fridge with a small freezer compartment, kettle, toaster, crockery, cooking equipment, glasses, cups, cutlery etc are all provided along with all linens and towels.

The dining area has a dining table and four chairs and a telescope which is ideal for catching the odd shooting star as we have no light pollution here or during the day you can zoom in on the local wildlife.

In the lounge area there is a 32" Flat screen HD television, Sky+ HD with Movies, DVD Player and IPOD docking station.

We also supply some games and DVD's for you to enjoy.

A woodburning stove means you can cosy up in front of the fire and we provide firewood and firelighters for this. We also have a sofa bed which folds into a bed settee allowing extra sleeping arrangements if necessary and would be suitable for 2 adults for a short break or for children.

The property is surrounded by raised decking and there is a garden area for you to relax in the peace and quiet and take in the surroundings.

Outside we provide a BBQ, garden table and chairs, a wooden bench and also a chimnea for those cooler evenings.

We do allow 1 or 2 well behaved dogs which must be kept on a lead at all times due to the wildlife in the area. (And Nessie!)

All we ask is that you thoroughly clean the apartment before you leave as we do not charge extra for pets.

We also have a rescue dog called Rueben and 4 hens which lay delicious free range eggs daily which you are more than welcome to help yourself to during your stay with us.

Don't forget the Loch Ness Monster is only a few miles away!

The Scottish Highlands region

The City of Inverness which is the capital and gateway to The Highlands is situated 20 miles from Samhach. It has everything a modern city has to offer with many shops, bars and restaurants. Inverness castle overlooks the city centre and the River Ness which runs through the city.

There are many golf courses in the Inverness area, the most famous being Castle Stuart which is a links course and home to The Scottish Open.

One of the best spots in the UK to see Bottlenosed Dolphins, as well as porpoises and grey seals is at nearby Chanonry Point which is about 14 miles from the city centre.

Closer to the city is the world famous Culloden Battlefield where British, European and world history changed on the 16th April 1746, here a new visitor centre really brings the battle to life!

There are also many whisky distilleries in the area, one of the closest and highest being Tomatin Distillery about 16 miles south of Inverness which has a 4* visitor centre where guides will show you the whole distilling process and you even get a wee dram at the end!

These are just some of the attractions and there are many more places further afield to visit in the Highlands, too many to mention but some highlights include Aviemore (Ski Resort) Nairn Beach (Travellers' Choice® 2013 Winner) Applecross (amazing drive there and wonderful food at The Applecross Inn) Isle Of Skye (stunning scenery) and of course Samhach in Gorthleck!!

Loch Ness

We are situated 5 miles from Foyers where the Falls of Foyers can be found, this is a spectacular 140 foot waterfall in which the River Foyers drops down toward Loch Ness, here you will also find a village shop and café with a post office.

Also in Foyers is The Craigdarroch Hotel which has a bar which serves great food and had spectacular views over Loch Ness .

Another pub/restaurant is the Whitebridge Hotel situated in the village of Whitebridge, approximately 4 miles away.

The name Whitebridge comes from the bridge over the River Fechlin, constructed in 1732. This was built by General Wade as part of a military road in an attempt to suppress further Jacobite risings.

Many different types of activites can be enjoyed in this area including walking, cycling, hill-climbing, shooting, fishing and 4x4 off road driving. Amongst other attractions in the area are Urquhart Castle, Loch Ness with the Loch Ness Visitors Centre, Fort Augustus, Culloden Battlefield and Dores beach to name a few.

Another local restaurant/pub is the Dores Inn which sits on Dores Beach at the edge of Loch Ness. The Inn is extremely popular with tourists and locals and is located 10 miles away on one of the roads to Inverness. This is also one of the best places to view the world famous Loch Ness Monster or Nessie as she is known by locals!

Inverness which is 20 miles away has many shops, night life, cinema, restaurants etc, as well as many tourist attractions. The train and bus stations are located in Inverness, whilst the airport lies around 6 miles East of the City. There is a limited bus service to Gorthleck therefore we would advise guests that a car is essential, there are car hire companies located both in Inverness and at the airport.

"The greatest holiday let we've ever been in!"

We had a fantastic honeymoon in Samhach! The house was very clean and literally everything was provided, even a bottle of wine in the fridge! The view from the house and the surrounding countryside are astonishing!

"Wood burning stove, fresh eggs and picturesque scenery"

As part of a week long tour of the north of Britain, Samhach was easily the highlight of our trip. The cottage surpassed all expectations offering a modern well equipped and clean environment in a tranquil setting right in the middle of the highlands away from the main roads. We were met on arrival by Graham who provided us with tips and places to visit close by in order to get the most out of our stay. The cottage came fully equipped with all kitchen utensils, BBQ on the terrace and a garden, also known as the highlands right outside our door. The log burning stove and full sky package rounded our days exploring the surrounding area. Will certainly be paying another visit on our next trip to the area. Many thanks Alex & Stephanie

"Samhach; the perfect holiday retreat."

Nestled in an idyllic and tranquil setting, Samhach offers all the comforts of home with the welcome addition of two extraordinarily friendly owners. Your every need is catered for; Sky+ TV, broadband Internet, DVDs and a fully equipped kitchen. If the weather is fair, there is ample seating outside as well as a fully equipped barbecue. The garden area is lush and the surrounding forest is teeming with wildlife such as deer. There is a complimentary bottle of the delicious Glenmorangie along with tea, coffee and sugar if you prefer a non alcoholic welcome drink. Everything is in immaculate condition plus Rosalyn and Graham are the perfect proprietors who offer both a warm welcome and friendly banter. The apartment is perfectly located with easy and direct access to Loch Ness, Inverness, Drumnadrochit and Foyers Falls. There are plenty of places to visit, with the option of perhaps just kicking back and relaxing in the quiet and tranquil apartment area. One word: Bliss! We will be back! Kim & David McAllister

"The perfect place to get away from it all."

Samhach is cosy but modern, its very well equipped and ideal for a couple. Its perfectly located to explore the Highlands and the house itself is surrounded by stunning woodland. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and we are keen to come back. I'd definitely recommend it.

"Wonderful location, really well equipped and clean cottage, great views"

A lovely week holiday close to Loch Ness. Cottage was very well equiped with everything you need for your stay. Owners very helpful, welcoming and friendly. Cottage was very clean. Our two young children really enjoyed playing in the graden, local woodlands and collecting the eggs from the 4 family chickens. Good base for travelling to local sites.

this cottage was perfect in everyway, very peaceful surroundings with deer making an appearence at the back garden, the owners couldnt of been nicer or more helpful. it is the ideal hideaway for a couple or small family with beautiful scenery all around. would def reccomend and will hopefully be back in the not to distant future.
