The Scottish Highlands region

Fort Augustus is located at the most southerly end of Loch Ness in the central Highlands. The central location makes it an ideal situation from which to explore Loch Ness and the surrounding Highlands and Islands, with the island of Skye only an hour and a half drive away and the capital of the highlands ( Inverness) only 40 minutes drive. The highlands of Scotland offer something for everybody whether its the magnificent, natural scenery, the wonderful diversity of wildlife in their natural environment, the unspoilt mountains and beaches, the walks through forests and glens or a stroll round the lochs, fishing in abundance, and tours plentiful whether by boat or by bus, the highlands offer the lot.

Loch Ness

Probably the best kept secret in the highlands, Fort Augustus is possibly one of the most idealic and picturesque villages in the highlands. The Caledonian Canal runs directly through the heart of the village down to Loch Ness and beside the Locks there are a few pubs and eateries which offer good food to either sit in or take away. There is a guided boat trip on Loch Ness lasting around1hr from the pier. You will also find the canal visitor centre which shows and explains the history of the Caledonian canal built by Thomas Telford and there is a rare breeds farm perfect for all the family to enjoy. There are numerous walks and cycle tracks available around the area, a golf course on the outskirts of the village and fishing on the Loch and salmon/trout fishing on the rivers ( permit only)
