Home description
The cottage is located in one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland, Balquhidder the burial ground of Rob Roy McGregor. A traditional detached stone build cottage with 3 bedrooms two with king size beds and one twin. The cottage lies in a small hamlet and very little passing traffic therefore a wonderful place to relax. Molmeg Cottage is our permanent home and due to travel we have let for holidays, hopefully this will reflect in the warm homely feel. We welcome well behaved pets at Molmeg Cottage. Molmeg holiday cottage has a modern fitted kitchen that contrasts beautifully with the rustic charms of the Living Room. All appliances are integrated.

The Central Scotland/Edinburgh region
The village of Balquhidder lies in central Scotland and is mainly known for being the burial place of Rob Roy. The scenery in the Balquhidder Glen area and Loch Voil to the West of Balquhidder is quite simply stunning. For those who like to get out and about, there are a number of munro's which are easily accessible from Loch Voil. Stob Binnein, Ben More, Beinn Tulaichean, Cruach Ardrain and Beinn a'Chroin. There is also good cycling as there are miles of quiet roads and the National Cycle Track no. 7 goes through this area.
The Glencoe Ski Resort is only one hour drive North from Molmeg Cottage; all ski equipment can be hired from the centre.
The fishing on Loch Voil is for wild salmon, brown trout, sea trout and arctic char. The salmon season is from the 1st Feb to 31st Oct and the trout season is from the 15th Mar to 6th Oct. Permits for bank fishing on Loch Voil cost £3.50 per day and can be purchased from J. Baynes Fishing Tackle
Loch Lomond National Park / Balquhidder area
Much of this area falls within Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park boundaries. Scotland's first National Park is one our most precious natural heritage assets and a day spent amidst the spectacular scenery in this area will be a rewarding and memorable one.
Molmeg Cottage is an ideal location for a golfing vacation in Scotland. As well as Callander's golf course there are many others easily reached including Aberfoyle, Stirling, Crieff, Comrie and further afield the famous courses of Gleneagles and St.Andrews.
How to get there
From Stirling take the A84 signposted Crianlarich. This will take you through Doune, Callander,Strathyre, and directly to Balquhidder.
We are approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes drive from either Glasgow or Edinburgh airports, and 2 hours from Glasgow Prestwick.

Further details indoors: The cottage was refurbished during 2008 and 2009 where a further wing was added to create comfortable accommodation. There are 2 double bedrooms, and a twin room , a six seat dining room suite and a modern fitted kitchen. There is a log burner in the lounge and electric heating. The garden is child and pet safe. There are 2 driveways for 3 cars and a further summer house / studio at the top of the garden is for your use, ideal for just sitting reading a novel or take advantage of the view and paint. You will find a supply of logs, kindling wood, coal and fire lighters that should last you two days.
Further details outdoors: Notice to dog owners: Children will play in the garden therefore please ensure that you clear away any dog poop before you leave our home. We would really appreciate your help with this. We have tried to make the garden dog proof but even our little Beagles have managed to escape and have roamed the countryside for hours. So be careful to lock the gates especially the top gate. The Farmers will not like your dogs chasing their sheep and may take matters into their own hands.
It’s always worth while to have your dogs treated with a Tick Treatment a week before the start of your holiday, also have a Tick remover with you. The summer can be a problem. As we do not supply towel for Dogs we ask you to please bring your own for them.
Exploring the woods: whilst the temptation of adventure is inevitable, please be aware that the woods lead to a river which is very fast and wild during rainy days and the winter months. The river runs strong. Please ensure your children are supervised when near the river. Saying that, over the millennium the river has carved out pools within the granite rock which in the Summer make fantastic plunge-pools.

Guestbook for Molmeg Cottage Scotland
Last night we returned from Scotland – and we would like to say THANK YOU to you – thank you for the great time we had in your lovely cottage! Darren, you did a great job, one can see that you put all your effort in the renovation! We really loved it and were impressed by all the lovely details in every room. I stayed in the bookcase J and it was cool! Barbara (Germany) Sept 2009.
Us three gals were born in Edinburgh and returned to our roots for the Tattoo and it was a beautiful and emotional evening for us. The next day we arrived at your cottage and wow,the surrounding scenery and all the different places we visited far exceeded our expectations. The weather could have been better but hey we were in Scotland !!!! Joan and Lou Essex August 2009
Thankyou for sharing your home with us,everything was SUPERB.We felt a lovely presence there and were quite sad to leave ! You have obviously gone to a lot of trouble to make it cosy, comfortable and homely.
We had an amazing holiday and really did not want to leave. The cottage was perfect, it was even better than we hoped and loved every minute staying there. Chilling out in the morning making breakfast watching the clouds roll past the hills, relaxing in the evening with the log burner glowing while the sun goes down - it really was a fantastic place to stay and use as a base for our holiday. The girls loved the cottage too, especially our eldest Lily-Mae, she called the bedroom behind the bookcase her secret room and happy played in there with her books, jigsaws and toys (which gave us a rest!). James, Alison, Lily-Mae and Poppy August 2009
Its in an absolutely beautiful location, we went walking every day come rain or shine, up by Loch Voil, the walks above the church. You must put more pictures on your website showing the views around your cottage and its location, I'm sure it would help make up peoples minds. As for the birds, we kept your table topped up with scraps and saw all manner of Finch's, Robins, a Jay (thats a first for me), even a woodpecker and loads of swallows, especially the pair nesting under the eaves of the roof immediately above your kitchen window. Roger and family 2009
