Sunny, self-contained, secluded and private cottage with a view from the deck over the River Leven and a private gate giving you access to Loch Lomond in 10 minutes in one direction or a longer walk (or cycle) to Dumbarton the other.
Available for a minimum of 2 nights.
Freshly decorated and newly furnished for 2014.
Easy to get to with or without a car:
Quiet and private setting with off-street parking within the town of Balloch.
Only a few minute's walk from Balloch station with a half-hourly service to Glasgow and beyond, 7 days a week. Change at Dumbarton for the Oban / Fort William Harry Potter line.
There is a bus stand with links to Stirling, Balmaha (for Ben Lomond).
Balloch is on the route for the Glasgow to Fort William Citylink bus.
There is a large Co-operative supermarket 5 minute's walk away open 7am to 10pm 7 days/week.
10 minutes walk to Lomond Shores, a quality shopping centre with a Sealife Centre and a tourist office.
There is a taxi stance by the station.
There are plenty of good walks through an 80 hectare Country Park or up the west side of Loch Lomond towards Luss.
The more adventurous traveler can access the stunning Trossachs National Park for ample walking / hiking / cycling / sailing / canoeing opportunities.
Set in the wooded grounds of our lovingly restored 1902 house, yet only a few minute's walk from Balloch train station which has a half-hourly service to Glasgow city centre.
Bright and contemporary, the cottage is open-plan, divided into sitting area, kitchen, and bedroom with a separate bathroom. French doors open onto a deck overlooking the river.
The kitchen is fully equipped for all your self-catering needs with electric cooker with double oven and 4-ring halogen hob, large fridge-freezer, microwave, washing machine, and all glassware, cookware, crockery, and cutlery. For more adventurous chefs and bakers I can provide other items.
Fresh linen and towels will be provided. The cottage has electric radiators and is very snug. (Note there is no running hot water at the kitchen sink, so you will need to boil the kettle to wash dishes).
There is a WiFi transmitter in the cottage, but due to the countryside location the broadband connection can be temperamental.
There is an LCD Free-View TV/DVD player and a selection of DVDs. The TV has an A/V input and an HDMI socket so if you bring your laptop/tablet and a cable you can use it to watch your movies.
Fisherwood Cottage sleeps 2 adults and a cot is available on request.
Tea, fresh milk, and biscuits, a guest guide and local tourist attractions leaflets will be provided for your arrival. We will stay available to help you organize your day outs and with anything else you might need.
A barbecue can be provided - weather permitting!
In the summer there is plenty of wild garlic growing by the door - help yourself and use the leaves in cooking or salads.
There is a wide choice of cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs within walking distance if you do not feel like cooking.
There are lots of walks around the loch from here, or a 4km walk along the riverside to Dumbarton Castle and Maritime Museum.
Balloch has seven pubs and numerous restaurants, all within 10 minutes walk. There is often live (folk) music in the Doghouse pub, see below.
If you need space for extra guests please ask, there is also a double bedroom with adjacent shower room in the house that may be available.
FINDING LOCAL MUSIC & EVENTS
(Holiday Lettings won't allow web links so we have shown the words you need to type into a search engine using "".)
There are two pubs in Balloch that offer live music, you can check on their sites: "maclay inns" then put "balloch" into 'town'.
Further afield (you need a car) is 'Pub of the Year 1705' - The "Drovers Inn at Inverarnan" at the north end of the loch or, on the east side of the loch, "The Oak Tree at Balmaha".
There are two main events listing magazines for Glasgow:
"the list glasgow"
"the skinny" which tends to list more informal free events
Most of the castles in Scotland belong to the Crown: "historic scotland". Historic houses, sites, and gardens around Scotland are managed by the National Trust Scotland: "national trust scotland". Both organizations offer 3-day passes - individual entry can be expensive. Check their sites.
MOST IMPORTANT: When you book you'll get the address and directions. Use SatNav/GPS to get you to Balloch then please follow the directions. GPS WILL TAKE YOU TO THE WRONG PLACE! Nearly everyone ignores this then rings to say they are lost.... There is no house number and I am not in the road that GPS's think I am...

"Just what we were looking for"
A few quiet days away to ourselves is what we wanted and that's exactly what we got. The cottage is very clean and very well kitted out. We had no disturbances and felt very relaxed. The weather was pretty bad (but that's what we were expecting) so we spent a lot of time in the cottage, chilling out, watching movies, eating junk. its the perfect place to do this. Didn't want to leave. would definitely go back.

"I wouldn't go again"
The accommodation is basically a small wooden summer house in the garden of the owners house which has some good and bad points and some general comments:Good:Location - On the banks of the Leven a sh… More
We appreciate all feedback but feel much of this is irrelevant. Without appearing to shout we have used capitals to address the points. In this case it appears that the person who made the booking was not the person who left the reference, which may explain something...
"The accommodation is basically a small wooden summer house in the garden of the owners house…" OUR DESCRIPTION SAYS: "Set in the wooded grounds of our lovingly restored 1902 house"
"Good: Price - Very cheap, the reason for which quickly became apparent." WE SET THE PRICE TO REFLECT THE VALUE, BUT IT IS NOT "CHEAP" - IN PRICE OR QUALITY.
"Blinds - Lots of black-out blinds keep out most of the morning light." IF YOU MEANT THERE WAS A LACK OF BLACKOUT WE CAN REPORT THERE ARE NEW THICK CURTAINS AT BOTH WINDOWS NEAR THE BED, IF YOU MEANT THAT YOU WANTED THE MORNING LIGHT THE FRENCH DOORS FACE EAST TO GET THE MORNING SUNSHINE AND THE CURTAINS OPEN WIDE.
Bad: "The accommodation is quite small, approx the same size as a caravan (considerably smaller than the static type) but not as well organised. Wouldn't be good for more than a weekend, or people that really, really like each other." THE PHOTOGRAPHS CLEARLY SHOW THE SPACE AND WE HAVE NOW INCLUDED THE SIZE IN THE DESCRIPTION. LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVE STAYED FOR MORE THAN A WEEK AND LOVED IT, LET THEM DECIDE…
"DAMP - The worst thing was the damp which is obvious as soon as you go in and very noticeable on the bedding, which was not nice, and your clothes by the end of the stay, not for asthmatics. I can't believe the other review didn't mention it as it pretty much smacks you in the face as a first impression." THE COTTAGE IS NOT DAMP, THE FLOOR IS HIGH OFF THE GROUND AND IT IS WATERTIGHT. THE ONLY 'DAMP' COMES FROM TWO PEOPLE LIVING, SHOWERING, COOKING, AND DOING LAUNDRY WITHOUT OPENING A WINDOW. THERE IS AN EXTRACTOR FAN IN THE BATHROOM AND ANOTHER IN THE KITCHEN. WE INCLUDE A DEHUMIDIFIER TO USE WHEN IT IS COLD AND DAMP OUTSIDE AND IN THE GUEST NOTES WE EXPLAIN THIS.
"Parking - may be an issue if you have mobility problems as there was 150m walk down a gravel path from the area for car parking, this also wouldn't be that suitable for a long car as you park in front of a yacht." WE DO NOT LIST THE COTTAGE AS SUITABLE FOR ANYONE WITH MOBILITY PROBLEMS AS THERE IS A STEP UP TO THE DOOR. THERE IS PARKING FOR 2-3 CARS, THE PATH IS TARMAC, THERE IS NO GRAVEL, AND THE PARKING IS ONLY 50M, OR 1 MINUTE AWAY…
WE ARE SORRY THAT YOU WERE UNHAPPY AND WE WOULD HAVE BEEN PLEASED TO DISCUSS THESE POINTS IN PERSON. I CAN ONLY ADD THAT YOUR EXPERIENCE IS FAR FROM TYPICAL.
