The Central Scotland/Strathclyde region
Glenvarloch is in Perthshire, with the local council being Stirling County. The property is overlooked by An Sheaan part of the Ben Sheaan peak and is located in a glacial valley now mostly wooded. The 'Munro's of Stuc o'Chroin, Ben Ledi, Ben Vane and Ben Vorlich are all within easy distance of Glenvarloch.
There are several cycle trails nearby other than the C7 which takes you directly from the house to either Killin to the North over the Glen Ogle viaduct, or to Callander and Aberfoyle to the South and South West.
The area is steeped in ancient history with the City of Stirling being the site of the battle for Stirling Bridge made famous by Mel Gibson in 'Braveheart' and the new Pixar movie 'Brave'. The magnificent Stirling Castle and William Wallace monument are located within 25 miles.
Numerous local walks and cycle trails are available almost from the doorstep, and with the property being 'pet friendly' there should be no reason why
The Cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow are within easy reach less than 1.5 hours by car.
The climate in Strathyre is unique - it being part of a North/South glen which can channel the weather in Winter, and yet protect from the worst of the Westerly winds at other times. It is best to be prepared for all 4 seasons - there being no such thing as bad weather - just inappropriate clothing !
Loch Lomond National Park
Within 300 metres of Glenvarloch is a part completed 'Broch' - an ancient dwelling house. The property is within strolling distance of Loch Lubnaig and a short drive brings you to the Falls of Leny, Bracklinn Falls and Callander. The spectacular Falls of Dochart at Killin to the north also feed off the sometimes inclement weather - so any rain has a positive effect ! Fishing is available in the nearby Balvaig River (permit from the local shop) and at numerous locations nearby. There are a number of excellent Golf courses nearby including St. Fillans, Comrie, Callander and Gleneagles is only 52 km away
The village of Strathyre has an Inn and a Restaurant, with the nearest 'The Inn at Strathyre' being less than 200m away.
Skiing at Glencoe Ski Resort barely 60 minutes away on priority cleared 'A' road.

Great place to spend a weekend with friends, only wish we could have stayed longer. Wouldn't hesitate to return to this lovely warm and homely house. Surrounding area at this time of year is splendid (autumn is our favourite time). The only downside for a few of us was no wifi, even although the pub across the road from the house had wifi. However still had a fantastic weekend.
Thank you for your comments. Wi-Fi is available via EE /Orange (dongle) as described in the joining instructions, and is now faster than the available broadband speeds in the 'Highlands'. Glad this did not detract from your enjoyment and the information sent prior to your stay allowed you to enjoy your time at Glenvarloch to the full. Best wishes John & Glenise

Spacious and very comfortable with areas/rooms for all purposes; a fully equipped kitchen with top quality equipment and appliances; great showers and clean everywhere. Much effort has been put into making this a really lovely place to stay.

"Spacious, luxury house, great base for exploring The Trossachs"
The house is great, loads of room for a large party of 8. Kitchen is well equipped with quality appliances to make your stay enjoyable and trouble free, we loved the fridge with the ice dispenser.
We found having different areas to sit worked well, whether you wanted to watch a film upstairs, or a game of cards in the atrium, you never fell like you are living on top of each other.
Beds were really comfy, and loads of room for your clothes. Only thing that could be improved, would be a blind for the velux window, as the light pours through in the mornings. Bathrooms did the job well with plenty of hot water. The jacuzzi bath was a hit with everyone.
There is a nice pub across the road, and a small shop which will give you the essentials should you run out. We mostly used the Tesco in Callendar, which had everything we needed.
Loch Katrine makes a lovely day out, walk to Callendar along cycle paths was good, and boat hire at Balloch, Loch Lomand was good value. Stirling is not far away, and a visit to the castle a must. Mhor Fish and the Mhor bakery in Callendar were a good choice for a Fish Supper and cakes & pies for a picnic.
Would definitely consider staying again, if in the area. Imagine it would be magical at Christmas or New Year.
Many thanks for your generous comments. So glad you enjoyed your stay. Rest assured we take note of all comments and have a continuous list of improvements to put in place at the end of each season as part of our commitment to you, our guests, to ensure that each year Glenvarloch is an even better venue than the previous year for your hard earned holidays. Best Wishes, J&G

"Fantastic place to stay - clean, well equipped and very comfortable in a lovely area."
Awesome place to stay, very central and we wished we had booked to stay longer as there was so much to see and do.
The lodge was very clean, well equipped and very comfortable. There was plenty of space for all of us to sit together or places to disappear to with a good book and some peace and quiet.
Lovely area for walks, wild life and a good base for visiting the Lochs etc. Oban/Fort William were just over an hour away and worth the drive for the fantastic scenery.
The owners supplied lots of information and links to websites which were very useful.
We would certainly book again when we next come up to Scotland.
Wifi would have been useful but we managed without. One of the best places we have stayed.

We stayed here as a party of 5 adults, 2 children and a dog over Easter. This property is exceptional, it is really well furnished, spacious, spotlessly clean and the owners have thought of everything… More
Many thanks for your comprehensive review. It's always good to hear feedback, and to know we are doing something right. Try the Creagan Inn or Mhor 84 next time you're up this way for superior local food.

"Had a fantastic stay we didn't want to leave"
This is beautiful property which was always warm and welcoming when we returned from exploring the surrounding areas. The drive to the cottage is lovely, and the lochs further out the road were stunning. We all loved living on the edge of the forest and nobody wanted to return home.

"Perfect location and accommodation"
By any standards, this is no ordinary holiday home. The accommodation is extremely flexible, offering both space and cosy corners. 'Glenvarloch' has character, style and is well equipped, including the quietest washing machine we have ever encountered! Walkers will find ample drying facilities too.
Strathyre is a small settlement, but has a well stocked local shop. An even wider choice of shopping can be found in Callander where the Co-Op belies its modest exterior. Both easy and strenuous walks can be found 'on the doorstep' with the magnificent scenery of the Trossachs just a short distance away.

"beyond expectations, beautiful place, inside and out, our dogs didn[--]t want to leave either"
We had driven through Strathyre many times, never thought of staying, but we are glad we did, the walks around the property are fantastic for both people and dogs, good ammenties within a sensible distance, two major tourist sites in Stirling and Edinburgh within reaching distances and a good base for a day out,
Callander has good shopping facilities and decent places to eat.
A great base from which to explore the Highlands.
Down side, a little traffic noise, but not a problem at night once you get used to the creaking beams!!
The house is warm and cosy, again a good base for either a family of all ages as there are amenities on both floors, or in our case two adults and two Westies
Definitely worth a visit - we have already planned our next trip
Many thanks for your kind comments ! You rightly point out some of the advantages of Glenvarloch being within the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park and of course the ease of access to a primary road provides great scope to reach the highlands & islands normally out of normal range - or even go skiing at Glencoe! It's a quiet spot set back from the road with the gurgling burn for company. We'd be glad to have you back !

"Excellent value for families or groups!"
Great place to go to if tranquility is a priority. Lovely area for walking, hiking and cycling. The house met our needs, and was excellent value. It is suitable for large families and groups. There is no wi-fi in the house, but there is a pub across the road that has it, if you don't mind dogs. Loch Lomond is a good 45- 60 minute drive from here. And the closest town, Callender is about a 20-25 minute drive on a very windy road..
So glad that you appreciated some of the advantages of Glenvarloch ! The prevalence of Android and Tablet gadgets and the upgrade to the local mobile network means, thankfully, wi-fi is not necessary.
It is always worth checking the map before booking. Glenvarloch is in the glorious Scottish Highlands where the roads are not straight and Top Gear fans may recognise some of the routes - fab ! If you prefer City living . . . . then Glenvarloch is not for you ! Best Wishes G&J
