Loch Awe

This unique location was created by the forestry commission as a place of tranquillity, amid outstanding scenery. In addition to the peace and quiet of the log cabin locations the surrounding area provides an amazing natural playground with forests, burns, rivers, castles, mountains and lochs to explore and enjoy. The area has a proliferation of walks, cycle routes and local attractions, has an abundance of wildlife and is a world renowned destination for anglers.

Many visitors are captivated by the area, as we were, and return time and again to the shores of Loch Awe. We hope that you too will visit our highland hideaway and enjoy our log cabins and the natural wonders of this unspoiled part of Scotland.

Oban is the gateway to the western isles and some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland. There are many interesting places to visit, to follow are just a few:

- Ferries sail to Mull, Iona, Staffa & Colonsay from Oban.

"Dirtiest place I have ever been."

I have just returned from a 4 night stay at strae and am so disappointed.we drove 15 hours and arrived an hour and a half early and the place looked like it hadn't been cleaned. I took photos an… More

Guests arrived 3 hours earlier than check-in time and cabin had only been part cleaned from previous guests, who left that morning. Guests were given access to cabin on their request, as they had had a long journey. An attempt was made to complete cleaning after arrival but there was a limit to what could be done as guests had already unpacked.

We are surprised & a little upset to receive a bad review as a result of this, as early entry was on guests request.

It is also worth pointing out that we received complaints from neighbouring cabin guests regarding the fact that our guests let their dog roam free (and foul) on adjacent properties. Our House Keepers had to clear up dog mess and also had to remove 3 dirty nappies from kitchen bin.

We hope future guests will see this review for what it is. It can be clearly seen from other reviews that this is a lovely, clean cabin.

"Cosy, Clean, Comfortable"

Thanks very much for your kind review. Apologies for the construction work, contractors were installing new drains, which is now complete. Since your visit we have done further improvement works to cabin, including works to kitchen and bathroom. Hope to welcome you again soon.

Strae cabin was quite a disappointment. The main issue was the lack of cleanliness; we had to clean the majority of the kitchen equipment prior to using it, drawers/shelves etc were dusty and dirty wi… More

"A bit tired - needs an upgrade..."

Be prepared for the 15 mile trip there and back when leaving the site to go anywhere, allow 30 mins each way for this at least. There is no mobile coverage for a number of networks, so please do not co… More

Thanks for comments. The 30 minute drive from Taynuilt is extremely beautiful and is what makes this a remote, quiet, unspoiled location. Orange and T Mobile reception is poor in the area, granted. Other networks generally good however. We prefer to think of the cabin as rustic, with real log cabin charm. Whilst we wish to retain this feel for the cabin and not create a contemporary chalet we have undertaken numerous, recent works, including installing new flat screen TV / DVD, new heater to living area, replacement flooring, decoration and replacement kitchen utensils and pans.

"Really disappointing"

We arrived late at the cabin, and the owner very kindly waited up to give us the keys, so service was good. The cabin itself was very disappointing... It wasn't very clean and decor was basic and… More

I'm sorry you were disappointed with the cabin. You claim it's décor is outdated but we prefer to think of it as rustic and most of our visitors find it very charming. With regards to the location / seclusion we wish to make it very clear that our web site is very specific (including a map of site) about location of other cabins, which are some way away and face in different directions. We assume that guests have read about our property or asked all appropriate questions before booking. With regards to size I would point out that this is a "cabin" (not a chalet or lodge) and by definition is somewhat smaller.
