The Costa Brava/Catalonia region
The Costa Brava is known as Spain's sunny 'wild coast'. It is lined with rugged cliffs, sandy inlets and bustling holiday resorts. Here you will find long crescents of sand and shingle and the long beaches of the main resorts where all manners of watersports can be found.
Lloret de Mar lies at the heart of the Costa Brava and is one of Spain's trendiest resorts. The beach here consists of coarse, golden sand and shingle and shelves quite steeply into the sea. The beach offers windsurfing and sailing in the summer months. The beautiful seafront promenade is lined with tall palms.
If you want to escape from it all, only a short drive away you will find the peaceful and green landscape. On the inland route you will find lots of old picturesque villages, where you can still find the old traditional handicraft such as pottery and basket making.
Of course you cannot miss a visit to Tossa de Mar with the old city centre ’Vila Vella’ and the metropolis Barcelona only an hours drive away. We can also recommend a visit to the Dali Museum in Figueres.
Lloret de Mar / Mont Lloret area
This coastal town, situated only 80 kilometres from Barcelona, has become well known in all of Europe as a cosmopolitan resort with a turbulent nightlife. In Lloret de Mar, the memories of the past perfectly combine with lovely sandy beaches.
Lloret was founded from pre-Roman settlements, which can still be visited. Highlights of these architectural treasures are the Church of San Roma, the Castle of Sant Joan and the many chapels. You will also love the botanic gardens of Marimutra in Blanes. Here you can see over 3000 different species of plants.
Vidreres, at 15 kilometres, is a lovely authentic Catalan village where tourist can mingle between the local populace. The towns centre has a beautiful church around which the shops are situated.
Lloret de Mar was once, like the neighbouring pitoresque town Tossa de Mar at only 11 kilometres, a fishermans town. In the second half of the 20th century, however it was discovered by tourism. This gives Lloret the cozy atmosphere of the old towns centre with a labyrinth of shopping streets as well as an active nightlife with many pubs and clubs.
On the wide sandy beaches you can enjoy many watersport activities. The good accessibility of Loret de Mar itself and the many activities like golf courses, waterparks, dolphinarium, horse riding facilities and sportscentra contribute to a perfect holiday.
Tossa de Mar This is one of the towns on the Costa Brava with most remains from the time it was founded. In those times the coast was pestered with looters from the sea, so people build large citadels to shelter them from harm. In Tossa de Mar, the romantic citadel Vila Vella with its narrow streets is well kept and now harbors many excellent fish restaurants.
Tossa de Mar also has wide sandy beaches, where you can undertake many activities and watersports. You can also walk along the promenade with its many inviting terraces. Tossa is certainly also worth a visit during the evening.
