The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Valencia Province region
Beaches: Valencia has beaches all around the city apart from the inland west side. There are a mixture of quiet local beaches to the more cosmopolitan ones just minutes from the city centre. It is possible to take trips to the Balearic Islands from the ports to the north of the city.
Football: Valencia Football Club is regarded as one of Europe's top teams. The stadium is close to the train and there are plans to build a new stadium but the politics of football seems to have delayed this occuring for the time being.
Golf: There are lots of golf courses in the area including El Saler, El Bosque and El Scorpion. They are all quality courses and have fantastic hospitality and wonderful settings. There are several more planned in the area in the near future.
Motorsport: The Circuito de Cheste is a recently completed all seat race track used by F1 Williams as their test circuit. This track plays host to both World Superbike and Motor GP events. It is located minutes from Valencia just off the main road to Madrid. Prices are sensible while facilities and viewing positions are excellent.
Sierra Calderona Nature Park This part, is 22 miles north west of Valencia, towards Lliria. The park is open to visitors and offers pine forests and mountains an views of the sea. There is a variety of wildlife from boars, foxes, weasels, squirrels, civet cats, and badgers.
Las Fallas: In March the city explodes into life with round-the-clock partying, fireworks, concerts, street markets and processions. One such procession, known as the ‘Ofrenda’, features a two day long stream of flower bearers proceeding to decorate a huge effigy of the Virgin Mary outside the city cathedral. This is really popular and many people visit Valencia especially to visit Las Fallas.
One of the highlights of the Fallas are the more than 500 sculptures or ‘Ninots’. These are made during the preceding 12 months. These can be up to 60 feet ball and are comical papier-mâché creations. There are celebrations in the streets with parties and then on the 19th, the statues are set alight with all safety precautions in place of course! It is amazing that all that work can be destroyed within minutes, all part of the celebrations though!
Moors & Christians - Alcoy, Valencia: In April very year, one of the most poplular and famous celebrations takes place to re inact the mythical battle between the Moors and Chrstians. This takes places in Alcoy. The preparation for this event is incrediblly long, starting the previous year for the April event.
The entrants dress in amazing costumes that have taken ages to prepare and these are judged during the Fiesta. The best costumes (winners) often donate their costumes to the Moors and Christians museum. The outcome of the battle seens the noisy firing of blank bullets and at the end of the battle the St Georges flag is raised with all are happy. This fiesta is very popular because of the colour, noise and the history involved.
La Tomatina: It is believed that La Tomatina started in the 1940's when some friends starting throwing tomatoes at each other in the town square of Buñol. This has now developed into an annual event on the last Wednesday of every August and tourists cannot believe what they see!
The trucks with the tomatoes arrive and then battle commences. No one is safe from being hit with a tomatoes and huge crowds flock to see this strange but fun event.
It really is a fantastic, unusual and very messy spectacle to see! . Mercado: To experience really Valencian life, take a trip to the Mercado, and sample fresh fish, meat, fruit and veg all locally grown and learn about the cuisine of the area.
Cathedral: Another place to visit in the Cathedral built between the 13th and 15th centuries. Fantastic articultural design and style to enjoy.
Barrio Carmen The oldest part of Valencia is Barrio Carmen with shops, houses, and bars and plenty to explore.
Estacion Del Norte: The city centre train station is full of fantastic arcitecture, marble, crystal and wood all enveloped in this beautiful building.
Bullring: This is next to the train station where you can still see bull fights. Concerts and other events are also held here.
Museums: Valencia has many museums including Paleonthelogic Museum, the National Ceramic Museum, the Museum of the Fallero Artist and the Museum of Natural Science
City of Arts and Science: This new project has been built to the east of the city and there are a variety of different museums and fantastic places of interest to visit including L’Hemiferic, the Museum of Science, the Oceanographic park, and the Palace of Arts this area covers some 90 acres. For more information visit www.cac.es. This is the modern part of this versatile city.
Ivam: If you want to see art, this is the museum for you with permament and guest exhibitions.
Turia gardens: In 1957 the city suffered floods that caused loss of life and destruction and resulted in the plan to divert the river Turia around the city. This now leaves a redundant river bed that travels through the heart of the city and has been made into a garden and almost like a "park" with sporting and leisure facilities and equipment/attractions for the children to play on. It is a easy to stroll through the riverbed and enjoy the attractions and beautiful flowers and plants.

Guestbook for Villa Chambo
Really enjoyed our relaxing break in Spain. Lovely quiet urbanisation only 2 minutes from Lliria town. Heated pool was fantastic. Villa had everything we needed and loved the BBQ on the terrace overlooking the pool. Gardens well maintained. Will come back again soon.
