The Powys region
Mid Wales has something for everyone with its stunning mountains, rolling countryside, coastline and of course - its luxury holiday cottages. Mid Wales and Brecon Beacons holiday cottages offer a great central base to relax or to explore an amazing range of unique attractions, market towns and castles; outdoor, indoor and even underground adventures.
From Brecon Beacons National Park in the south to the Snowdonia National Park border in the north, and from the west coast to Offa's Dyke on the Welsh/English border, Mid Wales is the largest and probably most diverse region in Wales. The holiday cottages Mid Wales has to offer are as diverse as the region itself but they have one thing in common - a 4* or 5* grading that guarantees a luxury holiday.
Cycle the forest trails, ride the rapids at a watersports centre, wander along gentle countryside walks, around lakes & reservoirs or conquer the peaks of Cadair Idris & Pen y Fan. At our Mid Wales and Brecon Beacons holiday cottages you also have the chance to try something completely different, from archery to quad biking, to underground adventures at King Arthur's Labrinth or Dan-yr-Ogof National Showcaves.
This cottage is located about 1.5 miles from the small town of Llanwrtyd Wells which has several pubs, restaurants, and small shops. Llanwrtyd lies between the Brecon Breacons and the Elan Valley in a area of outstanding natural beauty and wilderness. The cottage is within a beautiful valley that has been classed a site of special scientific interest due to the diverse range of many rare birds, animals and plants.
The cottage is mainly detached although is linked to another building via some old farm outbuildings. Right in the heart of Wales, this cottage is the perfect location for exploring the Brecon Beacons, Cambrian Mountains and the hills, valleys and forests that are the great outdoors of Mid Wales, as well as the nearby towns of Builth Wells, Llandovery and Brecon. In Victorian times, Llanwrtyd Wells was a fashionable spa town and many of its hotels date back to that time.
The area around Llanwrtyd Wells is full of natural beauty and breathtaking scenery, making it an ideal centre for walking, mountain biking, bird watching and touring. As you drive through Mid Wales it is often possible to spot a red kite, one of Britain's rarest birds. There are plenty of options for walking and hiking nearby in the Irfon Forest and around the Llyn Brianne Reservoir, an artificial lake which was created in the 70?s when the River Towy was dammed. At times of low rainfall, it is sometimes possible to see the roofs of the houses which had to be flooded in order for the dam to go ahead.
There is a lot going on in Llanwrtyd Wells throughout the year, so if you are looking for something a little bit different, then this is the place to come. This Mid Wales town is the home of the Man versus Horse Marathons, the World Bog Snorkelling Championships and the Real Ale Amble.
The 15 mile route around Llyn Brianne provides some of the most splendid views available in Wales. Leaping Stiles provides some excellent suggestions for walking in the area. There are also many local trail and hill walks from the cottage. 0.2 miles.
Coed Trallwn mountain bike trails, 3 trails for all abilities. 6 miles.
Riding and Trekking
Ffos Farm Riding & Trekking is a small friendly stables, offering horse riding, and pony trekking. All abilities, from beginners to the more experienced are catered for. 3 miles
Canoeing and Kayaking
Upper Irfon River offers testing rapids for the experienced canoeist. 3 miles
There are several miles of fishing on the River Irfon , just north of Llanwrtyd Wells. Fishing is also available at Llanerchinddfa Farm which has a ¼ acre fishing lake and there is fishing on site via tributary of the Wye.
Llandovery College Course - it is situated next to the Sports Pavilion within the College. Builth Wells Golf Club. 12 miles
The best way to see a red kite is to visit the feeding station at Gingrin Farm. 20 miles
