FINALIST FOR THE "POWYS BUSINESS AWARDS 2013"

The 4* Faulkner is equipped to a high standard and has luxurious furnishings. It has 2 bedrooms: one has a superking bed and the other a kingsize bed. Both beds will convert to single beds if required. It can be booked with the other Lodge cottages for larger numbers of guests - the Lodge can accommodate up to 23 guests. The Faulkner is a lovely cottage with a south westerly aspect so benefits from the sun most of the day.

Vulcan Lodge - the Faulkner sits in the Upper Wye Valley which is designated an area of special interest and beauty. It is only 3.5 miles from the market town of Rhayader: the gateway to the Elan Valley. With its network of reservoirs and dams the Elan Valley is considered to be the Lake District of Wales.
The backdrop to the area is the Cambrian Mountain Range which extends from Rhayader to the coast of Ceridigion.
Rhayader is a vibrant town with much to offer the visitor. With its Leisure Centre, Elan Valley Visitor Centre, Museum, Community Arts Centre (CARAD), Willow Globe open air Shakespeare theatre and the Red Kite Centre it is rich in culture and interests. Each year there are a number of agricultural shows in the surrounding villages and Rhayader itself has a Grand Carnival week with events occurring on a nightly basis over a 10 day period. There is a programme of free events at the Elan Valley Visitor Centre throughout the summer season and the Leisure Centre offers school holiday activities for children. There is also a playbarn 3 miles from the cottage.
With a population of just over 2,000 Rhayader has a range of shops including a Spar store and chemist. It also has 12 pubs!
For walkers the Wye Valley Walk is just a 10 minute walk from the cottage. The Red Kite Centre at Gigrin Farm where the wondrous raptors can be seen at close quarters at feeding time, is 3 miles away. For cyclists there are many cycle paths and trails close by and in Rhayader there is a mountain bike centre which offers guided tours as well as bike hire. For canoe enthusiasts there is a canoe access point on the river a short walk away and there are many opportunities for fishing both on the rivers Wye and Marteg and at Llyn Gwyn pool owned by Rhayader Angling Association.
