The South Wales / Rhonndda/Merthyr Tydfil region

South Wales has a great deal to offer with its lovely castles such as Cardiff and the ultimate fairytale castle Castle Coch. There are several very good museums including the Roman Legion museum near Newprt and the National Museum at Cardiff, the St Fagans where you can step back in time and experience centuries of Welsh history gathered together in acres of beautiful countryside at St Fagans Natural History Museum, one of Europe's biggest open-air museums. The South Wales coast and the lovely hills of the Brecon Beacons are second to none
The Llantrisant area
Commanding an outstanding setting on the crest of a hill, and enjoying a picturesque viewpoint, Llantrisant's splendour lies in its enchanting beauty and celebrated past. The glory of what was once a magnificent hilltop fortress town, like a dominant city from biblical times, was crowned by its medieval castle and a fine parish church. Those landmarks still stand, surrounded by a cluster of homes, which cling precariously to the steep slopes, and are scattered throughout the town's charming, unplanned cobbled streets. Llantrisant became one of the most strategically important Norman strongholds in South Wales and, as such, has witnessed a colourful history of which its people remain justifiably proud.
In the squae there is a statue commemorating the Chartist, heretic, archdruid and pioneer in the legalisation of cremation in the British Isles, Dr William Price he was undoubtedly one of the most flamboyant and indeed eccentric characters in Welsh history, as bright and colourful as his burning funeral pyre which shone across a dark and dull Victorian age.Present day LLantrisant and near by Pontyclun have many good restaurants, out of town shopping facilities, a sports and Leisure hall. There are lovely areas to walk especially the LLantrisant common with all its wildlife and mountain ponies
