Laurel Cottage Knighton
from £40 /night help
Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Laurel Cottage is a listed, beamed cottage that has been sympathetically converted from Knighton's 19th Century fire station, and stands within a few yards of Offa's Dyke, and within sight of both the Offa's Dyke Path and Glendower's Way. The main bedroom has a four-poster king-size bed, and there are three single beds in the second bedroom. There is a shower room upstairs, and downstairs, a sitting room with a log burner, and a well fitted kitchen. There's a stable next door with plenty of room for bikes and boots.
The cottage is on the edge of the small market town of Knighton that has a supermarket, plenty of shops, and plenty of pubs, restaurants and teashops within easy walking distance.
The Offa's Dyke Centre in Knighton has useful information about the long-distance walks and many other walks in the hills and valleys around Knighton. There are waterfalls, castles and stately homes nearby, and foodie Ludlow is just a short drive away.
Altogether the perfect introduction to Wales and the borders.

The Powys region
Knighton is a market town set amidst high hills in the valley of the River Teme. Mid Wales is breathtakingly beautiful, a land of hills, lakes and waterfalls, yet still a bit of a secret. Knighton's castles were burnt down in border hostilities, but there are interesting castles to be visited at Welshpool, Stokesey, Montgomery, and Clun, and Queen Guinevere is said to have been courted by King Arthur just down the road at Knucklas Castle. Nearby Ludlow also has a castle, as well as being 'the most perfect town in England' and a foodie capital.
The area is ideal for walking, with Offa's Dyke passing by the end of the cottage garden, and the beginning of Glendower's Way lies in view of the bedroom window. Knighton is surrounded with stunning walks, with maps and instructions available in the cottage, and just a short drive away you can explore a site where Caractacus is said to have made his last stand against the Romans. You can use our local train to create longer walks, and we are happy to set down and pick up if you're tackling the long distance paths.
Trips by car can take in a waterfall higher than Niagara, the beautiful Shrine of Saint Melangell, the reservoirs of the Elan Valley, the Mappa Mundi in Hereford Cathedral, the Victorian Farm at Acton Scott, and much much more.
When you're in Knighton you'll like the friendly pubs, the friendly shops and the friendly people. Everyone says so.

A very nice cottage. was a bit cold due to the weather so had to keep the log burner going but that was a good excuse to cuddle up to the wife :-).
Could be a bit small for more guests and the stairs were quite steep due to it being a listed building so having small children could be a concern. Overall though a very pleasant cottage and we had a very nice time.
