The North Wales / Denbigh/Flint/Conwy region
Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. Snowdonia National Park, situated in North Wales, boasts breathtaking mountain scenery, crystal clear lakes and cascading waterfalls. Climb Snowdon, which at 1085m is Wales’ highest mountain, or travel to the summit in style on the charming Mountain Railway. Alternatively, why not sample the beautiful green valley of Llangollen by steam train or from a leisurely horse-drawn canal boat. In July, the annual Llangollen Eisteddfod transforms the town into a unique centre of international music and dance, attracting musicians and singers from across the globe.You could also explore the beautiful coastline, safe sandy beaches and watersports of the Lleyn Peninsula, as well as Colwyn Bay, historic Conwy, Victorian Llandudno or the Isle of Anglesey on the north coast. To the south, there’s the lovely Brecon Beacons National Park, a haven of rugged moorland, forests and mountains that’s just perfect for nature lovers and walkers. Finally, the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is renowned for its wildlife, stunning coastal scenery, superb beaches and as the home of Britain’s smallest city, the City of St David’s.
The Llangollen area
With its dramatic mountain backdrop and boulder-strewn River Dee, the beautiful Vale of Llangollen is an idyllic setting for this pretty tourist town - internationally famous for its Musical Eisteddfod. The lush green valley itself can be explored via steam train or canal boat whilst the Castell Dinas Bran – high above the town – can be reached by various scenic pathways and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. With a good range of pubs and restaurants as well as many interesting shops, the village is within easy driving distance of the National Trust properties of Chirk Castle and Erddig. For those who don’t mind some driving, the 'Seven Wonders of Wales' can be seen in a day with Llangollen as a touring base whilst closer to the town are the Clwyd hills and the Snowdonia National Park.
