Just returned from a week at the cottage. We got booked last minute (2 weeks notice) and took our 2 dogs. We booked the cottage based on the photographs provided and summary. On arrival we was met and shown around the cottage and Parc (small industrial units on Parc) with gated access which closes after 5.30PM. Gates need to be opened and closed on entering/existing site. The private garden is not really private as it is open to the owners property and the industrial units where the whole of the cottage can be viewed so privacy is not provided. It would be a good idea to allocate a fenced aread to rear or side of cottage. The dogs cannot be left unattended as the area is open to the road/car park and field leading to the horse so you cannot sit down to relax. The cottage is attractive looking from the outside (stable conversions), the sofas really comfy and the TV's were an added bonus. We found the following negative points - the cottage is advertised a broadband available, this is not the case, we took our laptops and there was no wifi/broadband and no telephone signal (3). The washing machine and dryer is across the garden in a shed and is a shared facility. There is NO DIRECT ACCESS to the lake, you have to drive into the next village, there is no footpath on the main road to lead you to the next village. We felt the furnishings (rugs in bedrooms - threadbare) should be changed. Cooking utensils needs updating (tin-opener doesn't work), more pans/baking trays. The worst thing about our holiday was the smell (damp??) coming from the HUGE bed-room, we couldn't work out what the intense smell was but it wasn't pleasant at all and we had windows open for the full time we were in the cottage. Overall, if the cottage was given a little refurbishment, the smell sorted and a bit more privacy it would be an ideal place to visit. It didn't meet our expectations which we got from the past reviews and photos and feel that we needed to write something about our experience. Response: We are disappointed with Rachael & Leighton Mcmullen's review. Facts: In the property description we say broadband may be available Not is available. The garden extends to about 1.5 acres all of which is private. Like most properties the cottage has a gate which you open and close. We do not advertise or suggest there is direct access to the lake. If there was then reasonably it would have a gate to stop people crossing the property but then presumably the Mcmullens would object to opening/closing the gate. Like most properties the cottage can be viewed however it is detached with a 1.5 acre garden. The washing machine is indeed in a laundry house about 50 feet from the cottage within the garden. We are the only ones who use the facility to wash bedclothes/towels used by our guests. There are two rugs in the bedroom both by Laura Ashley and only two years old. The crockery is by Denby and utensils are two years old. We take pride in cleaning our properties and there was no smell in the cottage before the Mcmullens moved in. Their two wet dogs may help explain any smell. We are very disappointed that whilst at the cottage they chose not discuss the matters with us. NB We have three spare tin openers!! Arthur & Rhian |
