About this location
The Pembrokeshire region
Pembrokesire is famed for its beautiful and varied landscape, from golden beaches, cliff top walks, to barren mountain landscapes, Pembrokeshire has something for every visitor. Pembrokeshire has the only Coastal National Park in Britain, to protect the spectacular coastline, which houses some unique wildlife. The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path stretches the whole length of Pembrokeshire, enabling visitors uninterrupted access to this unique area. Our Preseli mountains are rugged and beautiful, and visitors can explore both by car and for the more adventurous by foot following some of the wealth of footpaths and bridleways that intersect the mountains. Visitors may be surprised to learn that stones were taken from the Preseli Hills to build the iconic Stonehenge.
Families will enjoy a variety of days out in Pembrokeshire, from the traditional day on the beach, with a fish and chip tea, to 'Folly Farm' and Oakwood Theme Park. There are also many castles and historic buildings to explore, including Pembroke Castle, and Cilgerran Castle. Pembrokeshire also boasts many beautiful gardens that are open to the public. Our nearest beach, part of the Pembrokeshire National Park, is Poppit Sands, a mile long stretch of golden sands. The beach is supervised by RNLI lifeguards in the Summer months, and is a popular destination for swimming, surfing and boating.
Tegryn is situated in North Pembrokeshire, in the heart of the Preseli mountains. We are the highest village in Pembrokeshire, at just over 1000 feet, and therefore benefit from superb views over the surrounding area. The drive from Tegryn to our nearest town, Crymych is spectacular, with views over the mountains to the sea. There are many countryside and mountain walks that can be taken from the property. All the roads through the area are minor roads, so we benefit from being able to walk along beautiful country lanes, to footpaths and mountain tracks all within easy pedestrian reach of the property. The local mountain, a half mile walk away, is called the Ffreni Fach (Little Frenni) and in the summer months, whinberries (wild blueberries) can be collected from the gently sloping mountain paths. For the more adventurous, the Frenni Fawr (Big Ffreni) mountain can be reached via a walk over the Frenni Fach. This walk involves relatively short but steep climb to the top, where on a clear day views can extend to Snowdon in North Wales.
