The West Wales / Pembrokeshire / Carmarthenshire region

The area of Carmarthenshire is known as the Garden of Wales and it’s evident why that is. With miles of stunning coastline, history, nature reserves and rolling countryside, it provides an opportunity to enjoy all that it offers.
Literally on your doorstep is the award winning Millennium Coastal Park. This is the largest land reclamation project ever in Wales and cost £30 million. Over 2000 acres of wasteland and former industrial landscape has been transformed into a stunning 22km coastal pathway/cycle track linking the Pembrey Country Park and the National Wetlands Centre.
Llanelli town is lively with an indoor market offering local produce, shops, cafes & restaurant's and retains its' original charm. The area boasts a varied assortment of tourist attractions and places of interest.
The Llanelli / Pentre Doc Y Gogledd area
You'll be surprised at the number and variety of activities that are available in this wonderful part of the world.
The Millennium Coastal Path (MCP) has a newly opened Discovery Centre with a restaurant & shop and offers hire of equipment. There are also beach showers located inside the centre. The Sospan Hopper Land Train also departs from here during summer months, taking adults and children on a leisurely ride along the coastal path.
At Pembrey Country Park there are plenty of activities & facilities for families. Try out your skills on the dry ski slope or toboggan run. Opt for a train ride, a game of pitch & putt or crazy golf, and let the kids burn off some energy in the adventure playground. A visitor centre and restaurant are also on site.
The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust in Llanelli runs The National Wetlands Centre here. The centre has various areas of natural habitat for a variety of birds & fowl. There are events throughout the year and the centre has a shop & restaurant on site.
For several hundreds years of history, visit the Aberglasney Gardens which is approximately 20 miles away. The main house is steeped in history and there are beautiful formal gardens, such as the Walled Garden, the Ninfarium, Cloister Garden, the Yew Tunnel and many more. There is a shop and café/restaurant on site also.
Pembrokeshire Coastal Path is 240 square miles of truly spectacular scenery. Providing rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, wooded estuaries, wild inland hills all provide a sanctuary for wildlife.
Dinefwr Park also provides beautiful gardens designed and executed by Capability Brown in the 18th century.
Take a boat trip out from Tenby Harbour and see Caldey Island. On the island you can visit Caldey Abbey, which is the home of Cistercian Monks. Here they farm this little island and produce revenue from sales of Caldey Island perfume & chocolate. You can also enjoy looking around the medieval priory, lighthouse & museum. To remember your day, buy a souvenir or two from the gift shop. Tea garden, pleasant walks & spectacular views.
Surprisingly with all this wonderful countryside, the area offers some great places for those that want a little adventure & some of the white knuckle kind!
Topping the list has to be the Oakwood Theme Park (junction 49 M4). This offers some high adrenalin thrill rides for those that want thrills, to more sedate children’s rides and activities. Reasonably priced entrance with family tickets of 4 or 6 makes this an affordable day out. Special events organised throughout the year - e.g. August 2007 - Fireworks every night. The Oakwood Centre also houses a ‘Techiquest’ providing interactive science activities.
For those of you that require a more gentile family day out, then visit Folly Farm near Tenby. This has a zoo, farm, funfair and large indoor adventure playground for kids and adults!
Culla Park offers a Paintball Centre at Trimsaran, approximately 5 miles away.
There is a plethora of castles around this area to view. The closest are Kidwelly Castle and Laugharne Castle.
Dolaucothi Goldmines date back to Roman times and offer a great insight to how gold was mined out of the Welsh hills all those hundreds of years ago.
For something more 20th century, visit the Pendine Museum of Speed. Pendine Sands is where many land speed records have been attempted & broken. The museum on in Pendine town houses the famous ‘Babs’ racing car that claimed the life of Parry-Thomas when he attempted to beat Malcolm Campbell’s earlier record.
Take a day out to Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park - located on a stunningly beautiful headland overlooking the nature reserve of Cardigan Island. A colony of Atlantic Grey Seals breed in the caves below the farm park and can be viewed at close quarters most days.

Stayed here for the Christmas week. Picked it as we liked the look of the open plan living/dining area which was ideal for Christmas as no one had to be shut away in the kitchen! Everything was perfect; clean and tidy with lovely decor and furniture, all of a high quality. Fantastic veiws out to sea from the lounge and the large bedroom (en-suite), the bed was huge and so comfy! We are keen walkers so went walking most days and not too far to get to the Brecon Beacons where we found some fabulous waterfalls. Couldn't fault a single thing about the penthouse and would love to go back in Spring or Autumn to make more use of the location and longer days!! |

From beach balls to fluffy towels, everything is provided to ensure an enjoyable stay. With walking, cycling, swimming, sand castle building all on the doorstep and TV and relaxing on the balcony, all tastes are catered for. The children, having first chosen which bedroom they were sleeping in then proceeded to the large lounge and living area - "Wow" was the first response. We all enjoyed a great stay, have been twice and will return again. |

Beachlands view - the name say's it all without doubt this penthouse's greatest feature is the fantastic views, the photo's in the adverts don't really do it justice. Inside the apartment it has all the comforts of home and everything you could possibly need seems to have been thought of. The furnishings are of a high quality and the overall size of the penthouse means the whole family has plenty of space. There is loads to see and do in the surrounding areas (although you do need a car for getting around). As a family we loved our week at Beachlands and would definately return. |
