Oakview Barn is a luxurious converted barn for the perfect away from it all self-catering holiday. It is set in rural Carmarthenshire for peace and tranquility but is close enough to civilisation for life's essentials. The barn is fully equipped for modern living but oozes masses of character from the conversion.

Visit Wales have awarded Oakview Barn with a 5 Star Grading for self-catering accommodation.

A holiday at Oakview Barn, sleeping up to 6, will suit couples, families and small groups looking for an away from it all break whilst having plenty of activities locally to keep them busy, if required.

Oakview Barn has been sympathetically refurbished and extended to provide high quality holiday accommodation offering modern facilities whilst retaining and enhancing the traditional character.

Guests will experience exposed oak beams and natural stone walling coupled with oak, slate and pure wool flooring.

Attention to detail and comfort is of great importance. All bed linen and towels are of egyptian cotton and duvets/pillows are of natural feather and down.

The well-appointed kitchen provides a dishwasher, washer dryer and fan oven with ceramic hob and extract canopy over. A combination microwave and fridge freezer are also provided.

The 'double-height' lounge area offers a large leather corner sofa and a matching 3 seater sofa, a 32" Sony LCD television providing Freeview digital TV and a DVD player. For those cooler evenings, there is a wood burning stove.

Over part of the lounge is a galleried games area for younger guests to play games, watch digital TV and BluRay/dvd's or play PS3 games, all whilst relaxing in the comfort of huge beanbags! There is a large air hockey table too!

The main bedroom provides a king-size bed. The second and third bedrooms offer single beds. There is space for travel cots. The rooflights to all bedrooms have blackout blinds. The fourth bedroom, with a double bed and garden views, is located on the ground floor.

All four bedrooms have an LCD television providing Freeview digital TV with built-in DVD player.

The family bathroom is provided on the first floor providing a large bath, an over-bath shower with large 'rain-storm' head, a bath/shower mixer tap, basin and WC. The shower room is located on the ground floor and provides a shower cubicle, basin and WC. Heated towel rails are provided to both the bathroom and shower room.

iPod docking stations are provided in the main bedroom and the lounge area.

The main staircase has stairgates fitted top and bottom for the safety of young children. The gallery staircase has one fitted to the bottom only.

Oakview Barn has been equipped to a very high standard and furnished using a mixture of period antique and new furniture.

Oakview Barn is situated in a former working farmyard which now only has occasional equestrian use. There are views to the Brecon Beacons National Park, the Black Mountain and the Towy Valley.

Access to the farmyard is via a 800 yard, part tarmac, farm track which crosses a picturesque river. Along the track there can be frequent sightings of buzzards and red kites. The track is a typical farm track and everyday cars will be fine so long as driven with care so we suggest you leave the Lamborghini at home!

There is ample parking to the front of the barn.

To the rear, there is a private garden mainly laid to lawn but with a large decking area offering views to wooded hills. There can be frequent sightings of red kites from the garden - please see the photographs.

Oakview Barn is located very close to the Western edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Black Mountains. This offers a wonderful opportunity for walkers/ramblers.

Brechfa Forest is nearby and this offers great mountain biking. Other mountain biking locations are also nearby.

The area provides a home for many birds of prey including the red kite and there are many opportunities for watching these magnificent birds.

The town of Llandeilo, described by Lowri Turner in the Mail on Sunday as 'a destination in its own right'
is a short drive away offering specialist shops, pubs, coffee shops, supermarkets, etc.

Several stunning castles, National Trust for Wales properties and gardens are nearby, most notably The National Botanical Gardens for Wales.

The historic County town of Carmarthen (oldest town in Wales) is less than 30 minutes away. The town centre provides a comprehensive shopping facility with most of the national chain stores. Additionally, there are large Tesco and Morrison supermarkets.

Guests may be interested to know that Tesco provide their home delivery shopping service to Oakview Barn so that food and other essentials can be conveniently pre-ordered and delivered after arrival, if desired.

“Top Quality, Excellent Value” We enjoyed our honeymoon stay at Oakview very much. Its newly renovated with good quality furniture, kitchen items and gadgets. The games area would be fun for kids or groups of friends (it has computer games and air hockey table). Theres also a good stock of books and boardgames for all ages & kids DVDs. The only problem we had was the road up to the building being a bit bumpy but its not for long. There's also some dogs in the neighbouring buildings that like to bark at you when you arrive but they seemed harmless enough. This place is excellent value, especially as the owners gave us a discount as there were only 2 of us. Its a great spot for exploring Brecon Beacons - but also an easy drive to coastal areas like Tenby. There was free wi-fi but little mobile signal. The Plough Inn around the corner served excellent food. We would definately return

“Great quiet location” Everything there was as expected. Excellent quality accommodation in a very quiet place. The only down side is that being in a remote place, mobile phone reception was very poor. Not that it was a problem fro us but it could be for some. Apart from that, great place to stay.

“A beautiful peaceful holiday” As soon as we arrived we realised we picked the right accommodation for a family holiday. The barn was amazing inside, so much attention to detail and very spacious. Good quality furnishings and bedding. The kitchen was fully equipped, there was nothing you couldn't cook there. It was amazing to see baby rabbits in the garden as well as bats! I can safely say it was the best accommodation we've ever stayed in.

“Lovely property but communication let it down badly” The property was immaculate when we arrived and lovely and spacious. Unfortunately, despite explicitly stating on the rental booking that we would require a cot for our youngest, none was provided. When we contacted the 'local representatives' they weren't away and suggested we buy our own travel cot (we have one at home not brought as we had agreed it would be provided, and this is our third and last child so we would have no use whatsoever for a second travel cot). We enjoyed the rest of the holiday, cleaned and emptied the house and left a message in the book saying how disappointed we were by the lack of cot and the poor reaction to us contacting their reps. In response, we got an email saying it had taken them 8 hours to clean the house after we left. We have a large 3 double bedroomed house which our cleaner spend 3 hours once a week to clean from top to bottom. Things quoted were a sticky handprint, crumbs on the settee and a banana skin inadvertently left under a bed. To our mind there are 2 possibilities either a. It really did somehow take them 8 hours (and they charged us £50 for the supposed additional 5 hours) or b. they were annoyed at the comments left in the guest book and wanted to 'punish' us. I have left it several months since our initial irritation before writing this review but I still feel really strongly about it. The owners said they had never had problems before, well neither have we and we take on average 2 holiday per year and have stayed in a wide variety of accommodation both here and abroad and no-one has ever complained at all about the standard that we have left the property in. We only used it as I believe a normal young family would. They said young families have stayed before, but looking at the guest book there weren't many, most had older children and none had as many or in as young an age range as ours (5, 3 and 1). As such if you have incredibl;y neat and tidy children who aren't sticky and don't drop crumbs this is a fine place to stay, but otherwise I really wouldn't take the risk of finishing your holiday with a bitter taste in your mouth, as we have Response: We are very disappointed that these guests did not experience the same high quality stay as our other guests as that is what we strive to achieve. However, we are not surprised that such a review has been left as, during the post-stay email exchange, we were advised “if you do not return the remainder of the deposit I will have no option but to complete feedback on TripAdvisor stating what has happened and our opinion of it and leave other people to make their own conclusions”. This is the first time we have had to retain part of the refundable security deposit due to the state that guests had left the property in. Every crevice of both sofas was filled with biscuit crumbs, there were sultanas crushed onto the slate floor, almost every waste bin was jammed to the brim with unwrapped soiled nappies, sticky fingerprints almost everywhere, a stain on a carpet (needed steam cleaning), etc. A thorough inspection and clean was clearly necessary, taking 2 people 4 hours. Had such a thorough approach not been taken, maybe the guests following would have discovered the banana skin under a bed – that would be totally unacceptable for our 5 Star-rated property. Previous guests have included young children but the condition of the property upon departure has never been as poor as when these guests left. Our terms and conditions regarding cleanliness are clear and this guest even put the following in a pre-arrival email – “and the security deposit being returned at the end of the rental when you are able to confirm we have left the property in the same state we acquired it in”. These are her words, not ours. Regarding the need for a cot, this seems to have been a communication problem as we have never provided cots and our listings do not state that we do. We had understood that these guests would be using bedroom 4 for a cot that they were bringing, not that we would provide a cot for them. It is a shame that these guests have finished their holiday with a bitter taste as that is the last thing we would want to happen. However, we are fortunate that this is the first time this has happened and, now in our fourth season, every previous guest has been more than satisfied and has either left wonderful comments in the visitor book or on TripAdvisor.

“Beautiful Place to stay” Oakview Barn is a beautiful converted barn set down a long narrow track, surrounded by beautilful countryside. The barn was equipped with everything to may your stay enjoyable, including lots of board games, a chess set, 6 TV's, a radio, a Playstation 3, iPod dock, air hockey table, a BBQ, a wood burner and lots lots more. The summer of 2012 is one of the wettest summers on record, but returning to the barn after a days drenching always lifted your spirits. These few words do not pay justice to the quality of the accommodation. All in all a beautiful holiday experience.

“The perfect place for a relaxing honeymoon” We had a wonderful 6 days at Oakview. The location is perfect - handily close to the lovely town of Llandeilo but brilliantly rural and out the way. The barn was very clean and extremely well equipped, but it also had a lovely warm, happy, well-loved feel to it. Highly recommended.

“Very warm and Comfy” Great base to explore a really beautiful part of Wales with Castles everywhere and the beautiful Towy Valley . We found the property warm, comfortable and with a very well equipped kitchen There are showers in both bathrooms . Personally I would have really have loved a bigger bath but then I am a bit of a bath fanatic. Nicky and Mark give plenty of warning about the farm tack to get there so be warned if you are “townies” and preferably arrive in the light (like we didn't!)- some sort of map to show the location in relation to the lanes would be a great . Would highly recommend to families and must be fab in Summer – immaculate garden and stunning view of the Oak covered hill .

“Oakview Barn beautiful setting and wonderfully restored Barn, we can't wait to return.” We were very excited about staying at Oakview Barn. The photos do not do it justice! Arriving to the barn, we drove through beautiful farmland. The restoration was done so well, we had a family of 6, grandparents, parents and two young adults and it was the perfect size for us. The kitchen was wonderful to cook in, looking out onto the pastures and very well accommodated. The town of Llandeilo is very close with quaint upscale shops and restaurants. Great location to Cardiff and West Wales. The owners Nicki and Mark were so helpful with directions and suggests for our first stay in Wales. Our welcome basket with Welsh cheese, wine and gourmet treats was great!

“Unique, Sophisticated, tranquil and luxurious barn conversion!” We could not have found a more suitable place for some rest and relaxation!! The barn itself is finished to a high standard, not only asthetically, but equipped with modern appliances that think of all your needs. Lovely large kitchen space, welsh slate placemats and coasters which were a lovely touch. A silent dishwasher! Everything was clean and extremely well organised. I can imagine that this would be agreat place to bring children as there were lots of games, plus air hockey and leather bean bags with a playstation on the mezzanine floor. All the bedrooms were superbly decorated with unique furniture, black out blinds and LCD T.V's. Also deep pile wool carpet which gave a very cosy feeling. This barn can fit six very comfortably. Great showers in both bathroom's. Llenideilo is ten minutes away by car, a lovely town worth visiting with a great Castle...Llandovery is about twenty minutes or so away and has a lovely pub called The White Hall Hotel. Also worth a vist is the waterfall at Merlincourt and the Cathedral Caves in Dan-yr-Ogof is about an hour and ten minutes drive, but well worth it. Also a dinasaur park so great for children. The barn is situated on a farm, which means that it is a track and not a paved driveway, so take care when driving. One thing to mention is that it is silent here and absolutely fantastic! Quite happily would have stayed in the barn all week, which was lucky as I had alot of work to do so I didnt feel as though I was forcing myself to put pen to paper! We will be coming back, hopefully the sun will be shining for us then and we can enjoy the garden! Thank you Nicky and Mark.

“A stunning barn in a peaceful location.” What a superb holiday we had at Oakview Barn. The spotlessly clean and very well thought out barn full of unexpected treats like a galleried games room with an air hockey game and a playstation kept the children entertained in the mornings as we took our time getting ready each morning! TV's and DVD players in all the bedrooms, as well as the living room was very exciting for the children! A brilliantly equipped kitchen, which was a joy to cook and eat in. A lovely garden overlooking a tree filled hill and horses grazing in the field ahead, was a beautiful setting. Two bathrooms (one with power shower), comfortable bedrooms, all perfect and very homely, a delight to come back to after a busy day exploring in the Brecon Beacons! A truly terrific holiday enjoyed by us all!
