Local Interest and History

The Collegiate, designed by Harvey Lonsdale Elmes, the architect of Liverpool’s world famous St George’s Hall, is a short walk away from the centre of Liverpool with its theatres, museums, galleries, shops, cafes, restaurants, Cathedrals, amazing live music scene and clubs to name a few. If you look through the apartment windows you will enjoy sweeping views of the city and on a clear day you see across the city to Wales.

Historical Facts

• The Collegiate is one of the city’s most imposing buildings. It was designed by Harvey Lonsdale Elmes who
was also the designer and architect of the most magnificent St George's Hall.

• The Collegiate was founded in 1840 under the name Liverpool Collegiate Institution, as a day school for
boys.

• A former head of the school included Reverend George Butler, the husband of the early feminist, Josephine
Butler.

• Famous Collegiate students include Leonard Rossiter, Holly Johnson, Pete Best and Brian Labone.

• The Liverpool Collegiate was closed in 1985 following a fire.

• Today the building retains its imposing double height doors which lead onto a beautiful mosaic floor with
sweeping staircases, its fireplace and the World War One memorial in the hall, with its list of all of the
school patrons and headmasters

Liverpool / Liverpool City Centre area

As a city, Liverpool is diverse, energetic and exciting. Liverpool is deemed a Capital of Culture and its world famous waterfront has World Heritage status. Your are within easy reach of all of Liverpool’s main attractions from the world famous Liver Birds, the Pier Head, the Albert Dock with its Beatles Museum to a short walk to the Catholic Cathedral and the Anglican Cathedral, which is the fifth largest building on the planet.

If you want to escape the city, head over to Wirral with its many beautiful parks and gardens, sandy beaches, stunning sunsets, picturesque villages and over 30 golf courses. Wirral’s history can be traced as far back to the Stone age when Vikings and Roman’s roamed the land. Or visit Speke Hall, Croxteth Country Park or the tranquil and peaceful Knowsley Wildflower Centre, the second largest wildflower centre in the world, the biggest in Europe.

The Collegiate truly is a home from home holiday experience with much to see, do and enjoy nearby. You are located next to a park and the complex has its own private, walled garden, a haven in the city. We look forward to welcoming you soon
