The Northern England / Yorkshire / Merseyside region
East Float is situated near the historic town of Birkenhead with its two key historical focal points - Hamilton Square, one of the finest Georgian squares in the country and the world famous Birkenhead Park, which was the inspiration for New York’s Central Park.
Being next to the River you will see ships from all over the world come in and out of the Docks, some so large as they pass through the raised Tower Road Bridge that you will never cease to wonder how they do it. East Float Quay is a short walk away to the world famous Mersey Ferries and just across the River Mersey lies Liverpool with its theatres, museums, galleries, shops, cafes, restaurants, Cathedrals, amazing live music scene and clubs to name a few. If you look through the apartment windows you will see the Liver Birds, the Pier Head, the Albert Dock and the Anglican Cathedral, which is the fifth largest building on the planet.
The Wirral peninsula is host to many beautiful parks, gardens, sandy beaches, stunning sunsets, picturesque villages and over 30 golf courses. Wirral’s history can be traced as far back to the Stone age when Vikings and Roman’s roamed the land.
A walk along the promenade from the Seacombe Ferry will take you along the waterfront to the quaint Magazines Lane area, Vale Park with its unique Bandstand and New Brighton. At New Brighton you will see its famous lighthouse and of course Perch Rock, where you will often find rallies of classic cars, music events, jet skiers and kite flyers to name a few. You can ride the funfair, go ten-pin bowling or simply feed the swans at the marine lake and enjoy the fantastic views across the Irish Sea, watching the ships enter the Mersey estuary. West Kirby, Heswall, Hoylake, Chester and Parkgate can offer you the perfect day trip, the world famous Port Sunlight is just a 15 minute drive away and includes the Lady Lever Art Gallery, which contains an unrivalled collection of Victorian art. Chester with its Roman history and amazing Zoo, the Blue Planet Aquarium and Cheshire Oaks Designer Retail Outlet Park in Ellesmere Port is just a 20 minute drive away.
Historical Facts
•In 1851-60 the Great Float opens, formed by closing Wallasey Pool and using Egerton Dock as an entrance. It was planned as a link to other docks but became a dock in its own right, which was split into East and West Float Quays. •Throughout the 1850s East Float Quay was used as a departure point for emigrants on ships bound for Australia. •In 1866 the Alfred Dock was built to bring in grain to East Float Mill. •In 1879 the world’s first submarine Resurgam II was launched, which had the capacity to stay underwater for four hours. •In 1893 when a further four mills were built in Birkenhead Merseyside became the biggest flour milling centre in Europe. •In 2001 the release of film The 51st State starring Samuel L. Jackson, Meat Loaf, Robert Carlyle and Ricky Tomlinson, saw East Float Quay play a starring role in the warehouse party scene. •In 2006 East Float Quay won a prestigious Regeneration Award.

'Very comfortable, very nice apartment and very helpful staff. Excellent toys cupboard! Thanks. We would recommend for families'.
Dinah and Ben Hatch, authors of the forthcoming travel book - England With Your Family, 25th-28th June 2008
'Excellent 'home from home'. A little worried re-having 3 children but fine, very helpful, well catered for. Provided breakfast in relation to what the children ate. Thank you! We would stay again and recommend to friends and family.'
Gillian, husband and 3 children, Tyne and Wear, 13th-15th June 2008
Superb facilities, cleanliness and a warm reception. We would stay again and recommend Mersey View to friends and family'.
Mr Gillespie + 5 guests, Newcastle Under Lyon, 31st May - 1st June 2008
'Staying at East Float Quay was very convenient for the Band and peaceful too. Parking in Liverpool is very expensive and hard to find and the noise in the city can be deafening. Staying only 10 minutes away by car or a Mersey Ferry ride away to the Liver Birds was relaxing and much more economical and fun for us. We will stay here again whenever we visit Liverpool to play the various music festivals'.
Just another note to say how impressed we were with the apartment and its amenities. The space was great, totally ideal for the band to chill out and relax after all the events they played. We loved the fact we could see Liverpool from the windows and being on the Dock was great. We have played in Liverpool for the past 3 years now and definitely preferred staying in your apartment. Thanks for everything we shall definitely be back next year'
Michael Bowman, Band Manager - Blackout 101, Los Angeles 21st-27th May 2008
'The apartment was perfect and your breakfast goodies were very much appreciated. The boys also wanted to thank you for your help we tried a couple of places you mentioned and one of the restaurants in Wirral mentioned in the apartment guidebook. Although most of us had been to Liverpool before it was very interesting to stay somewhere outside the centre. It was especially great being able to walk down and get the ferry in the morning. I will be recommending your place to anyone thinking of going down to Liverpool. I myself would be interested in coming back down with my family too.'
Frank + 3 guests, Glasgow, 16th-18th May 2008
'It is a lovely apartment, quiet, nice views, very clean. Beds were very comfortable. We had everything we needed, much more than other places we have stayed in. We will definitely be renting it again when we come back up to Liverpool. We will be telling all our friends about it!'
Laura, James, Rachel and Wayne, Bishops Stortford 3rd-5th May 2008
