The Crete region
"Out in the dark blue sea there lies a land called Crete, a rich and lovely land, washed by the waves on every side..." --- The Odyssey
"From fertile coastal plains to rugged barren mountains, from mellow stone houses to stark concrete modernity, from bustling capital to sleepy hill villages, Crete, the largest of the Greek Islands, is an island of contrasts. Home to around 650,000 people and several million olive trees, the island remains ever popular with visitors from northern Europe, other parts of Greece, and indeed, visitors from all over the World.
Crete is a different world compared to other parts of Greece. Crete is a place with its own tradition, its own character and its own dialect.Throughout the island the remnants of occupation by invaders from the Romans, through to the Turks, can still be seen, with aqueducts and architecture still plainly visible. In the south of the island, you will find hundreds of exotic beaches, some crowded and some isolated which can satisfy any taste. Crete is famous for its fruit and vegetable production. So by visiting Crete, you have the chance to taste the world-known Cretan diet based on vegetables and pure olive oil."

Livadia area
The villa is located in the seaside village of Livadia, Innahorion, in the south-Western part of Crete, at a distance of 72 km from Chania and 31 km from Kissamos. Livadia is located in the middle of the European hiking path E4– a seaside route of special natural beauty- that begins at the village of Kambos, continues through the villages of Chryssoskalitissa and ends up to Elafonissi. The route is typical of the rugged beauty of Crete with amazing changes of the scenery between olive and locust trees and sea-beaten rocks of black and red volcanic lava.
In the village of Livadia you can purchase food in the traditional way – namely you may buy fish from the fishermen or vegetables, dairy products and meat from the farmers. You will also find three small taverns and a mini- market. Larger supermarkets are in the villages of Platanos and Kissamos. A gas station is located about 11 km away in the village of Elos.
Finally, the inhabitants of the village treat foreign visitors as their own guests following the Cretan hospitality tradition and you may join their local festivities such as annual grape picking and grape stamping to make wine or watch how tsikoudia (Cretan local drink) is made etc..
