The Heart of England / Peak District / Peak District/Derbyshire region

The Peak District is an upland area in central and northern England, It offers all year round activities and events for people of every age. For lovers of the outdoors, there are around 1,600 miles of footpaths across stunning scenery. Discover limestone dales full of rare wild flowers, stroll along trout filled rivers or watch skylarks soaring above heather clad moors. Walking, bird watching, caving, rock climbing, potholing, fishing, sailing, gliding and cycling are just some of the activities available.

For those interested in history, there are a number of stately homes to visit such as Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Eyam Hall, all of which offer a range of cultural activities throughout the year.
Visit the prehistoric sites of Arbor Low and Cresswell Crags, step back in time at The National Tramway Museum or take a ride on a steam train at Peak Rail. Discover the Norman castle and stunning caves in Castlelton, iron age settlements above Hathersage and the area's lead mining and industrial heritage sites.

The local towns of Bakewell, Buxton and Matlock Bath, each famous in its own right, offer culture, shopping, restaurants and traditional markets and if you still have energy, there is always the famous theme park of Alton Towers!

Litton area

The village of Litton lies near the heart of the Peak District, one mile east of Tideswell, five miles from Bakewell, eight miles from Buxton and less than 20 miles from Sheffield.

Candlelight Cottage looks onto the village green, with its stone cross and pair of stocks. The Red Lion Inn is well known for the quality of its beer and catering and the village shop provides essential provisions, post office facilities and home made cakes.

There are excellent walks from the door, especially down Litton and Tideswell Dales to reach the River Wye near Water cum Jolly, or down Tansley and Cressbrook Dales down to Monsal Dale and Monsal Head. Cressbrook Dale and Tansley Dale are famous for their wild flowers, as are several other local dales.

In the summer, Litton and many other local villages create unique well dressings from flower petals.
At Christmas time, the area hosts a range of Christmas activities, such as carols in the caves at Castleton, music by local brass bands, events at nearby Chatsworth House, Xmas markets and whole villages dressed with Christmas lights. The Litton Christmas tree is positioned just opposite Candlelight Cottage.
