Further details indoors

Gladwyn Cottage was built around 1700, of stone under a thatched roof. It sits in its own cottage garden, set back from the road. One of a terrace of four cottages, it has been carefully and tastefully converted. It is "Listed" by English Heritage.

Inside, the cosy living/dining room has a large inglenook fireplace and woodburning stove. (Electric storage heating provides additional warmth when needed.) The TV includes "Freeview" channels, and has a DVD player. There's also a CD player/radio, wireless Internet access, and a telephone.

Off the sitting room is the cottage kitchen which is well equipped with electric stove and fan oven, microwave, fridge with small freezer compartment, and washing machine/tumble dryer.

Off a small boot/coats area is the downstairs cloakroom with toilet and basin.

Up the steep winding stairs are 2 bedrooms, 1 double and 1 twin, and the newly refurbished shower room. All have electric heating. (Electricity is included in our rental price, along with all bed linens, towels and so on.)

Further details outdoors

Cottage style lawned garden at the front and terraced garden at the rear....with the garage and parking area to the rear of the cottage. Sunny and secluded.

Further details

We welcome well behaved dogs - and their owners! (We charge £12 per week or part week for your dog.)

Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate children under 8 years old at Gladwyn Cottage.

The Dorset region

The breathtaking coast, and some of the most beautiful and unspoilt countryside to be found anywhere in England, make West Dorset a very special place to explore.

The wonderful Jurassic Coast, England's first natural World Heritage Site, stretches for 95 miles from Exmouth in the west to Studland Bay in the East. There is so much to do along this stunning coastline, which is world famous for its fossils. Wonderful beaches, breathtaking views, dramatic walks along the South West Coast Path....there is something for everyone.

Inland you will find miles and miles of rolling countryside sprinkled with historic villages and bustling market towns. Almost all of Dorset's countryside is designated as an area of "Outstanding Natural Beauty" and it's not hard to see why.

Litton Cheney

Litton Cheney is one of the prettiest villages in West Dorset, nestling in the ancient Bride Valley, designated as an "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty". Bridport, 6 miles away, and Dorchester, 9 miles, are both interesting and attractive market towns which offer a wide selection of amenities, attractions, museums, galleries and of course restaurants. Both towns have regular farmer's and street markets - Bridport's Wednesday and Saturday markets are particularly popular with both locals and visitors.

The dramatic landscape of the Jurassic Coast offers wonderful beaches and views, and of course the opportunity for fossil-hunting. There are coastal or countryside walking trails to enjoy, as well as the popular harbours and seafronts of Lyme Regis, Weymouth and West Bay. The coast can of course also be enjoyed from the water - fishing, cruising and speedboat trips are available from nearby West Bay.

Golfers will enjoy a round on the seaside links course at Bridport and West Dorset Golf Club, which welcomes visitors.

The area is well known for excellent local produce and some award winning restaurants.

You can shop at our local Modbury Farm shop, open long hours and just 3 miles from the cottage, or choose from Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall's River Cottage and Canteen in Axminster, Mark Hix's Oyster and Fish House in Lyme Regis, the Michelin starred Sienna in Dorchester, The Riverside in West Bay, or our two local favourites The Bull in Bridport and The Hive Beach Cafe at Burton Bradstock - all within easy reach of Gladwyn Cottage.
