The South East England / Kent region

The coastline enjoys a unique micro-climate which makes it one of the driest and sunniest places in Britain.

The area has a stark beauty of its own, and also has unique wildlife , which is visible at the Nature reserves at Rye Harbour and Dungeness.

The area around Littlestone is steeped in history which includes Dover Castle: Discover its labyrinth of secret wartime tunnels built deep in the White Cliffs of Dover.
Kent Battle of Britain Museum: The most important collection of battle of britain artefacts on show in the country.
It has its own unique steam railway the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway which runs along the coast. This narrow gauge miniature railway is a great attraction for visitors.

The coast provides the best sandy beaches in the South East of the country, with shallow water allowing safe access for children.

The Littlestone-on-Sea area

There is so much to see and do in the area.

Attractions include: Hythe to Dungeness railway. Take a trip on the smallest public steam railway in the world, which meanders through the famous Romney Marsh flanked by sheep farms.

Visit the famous Lympne Port Wildlife Safari Park.

Lower Leas Coastal Park Folksetone. the largest free adventure playground in the south east with a zip wire, pirate's ship, cargo nets and lots more to keep youngsters busy and happy.

Brenzett Aeronautical Museum which houses a unique collection of wartime equipment, remains recovered from aircraft crash sites and memorbalia.

There are numerous festivals which are free to the public : Folkestone Multi Cultural Festival,Chari Vari, Hythe Venetian Fete.

Romney Marsh Visitor Centre: This award-winning centre is built of straw bales and has dramatic displays about the Marsh and its heritage.


Littlestone Golf Course is a Championship Links Course laid out on the natural undulating land between the famous Romney Marsh and the English Channel in the South East corner of Kent. The course is presented in superb condition throughout the year and temporary tees and greens are unheard of.

The 18 hole Romney Warren Golf Course lies alongside the Championship Littlestone Golf Course and is owned by the members of Littlestone. Three and four balls are always welcome on Romney Warren and it is possible to arrange a day's golf over both courses. Details of Romney Warren can be found at www.romneywarrengolfclub.org.uk.

Both courses are 5 minutes walk from Thirlmere.

On the 16th July 1927, the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway (RHDR) a narrow gauge railway was opened, Littlestone lies about 1/2 mile south of the main headquarters of the railway at New Romney . During 1928, the nameboards at the New Romney station were changed to read "Littlestone-on-Sea" in an effort to emphasise the railway's seaside location.

The railway was built by Captain J. E. P. Howey and Count Louis Zborowski to serve the local population and tourist trade, it stretches for nearly 14 miles from Hythe through Dymchurch, St Marys Bay, its base at New Romney, Romney Sands and then to the fishermens cottages and lighthouses at Dungeness. Out to sea, lies a section of the Concrete Mulberry Harbour built during 1944 for the Dunkirk landings in the Second World War. This section became detached from its tug and drifted back to Littlestone. This platform is clearly visible from our photographs.
