A magnificent Lake District farmhouse dating back to the 18th century, surrounded by breathtaking countryside in the hamlet of

Little Langdale. Once a local Staging Inn, Birch House has been beautifully refurbished to provide an exceptional standard of self-catering accommodation for groups of up to 14 people. 21st century luxury blends with homely Lakeland character; polished oak floors, exposed beams and cosy woodburning stoves provide comfort and relaxation in a sublime location. A superb dining room makes large gatherings a breeze.

Accommodation in detail

Gorgeous landscaped gardens and parking for four cars. Entrance into reception area with woodburning stove and polished oak floor. Main sitting room features original beams and feature fireplace with additional woodburning stove. Large, well-equipped kitchen with door to patio area and garden. Large separate dining room with spectacular mountain views and space for large groups to gather. Spacious ground floor bedroom with double bed and two single beds, ground floor shower room.

Stairs to interesting layout of four further bedrooms; two double bedrooms, one family room with kingsize four poster bed and two single beds in an interconnecting room, one twin bedroom. Three bathrooms, all with showers and one with corner jacuzzi bath.

The hamlet of Little Langdale has a stunning location under the Lingmoor Fells and offers an air of escape that's hard to beat.

With a blissfully remote feel, this area is a haven for walkers and provides access to many of the Lake District's most famous routes. There are several Lakeland pubs in the Langdale Valley, and the excellent Three Shires Inn is just a minute's walk from Birch House.

When you wish to head out and explore the rest of the Lakes, pass pretty little Elterwater on your way to Skelwith Bridge and the A593. From here, head south to Coniston or north to well-served Ambleside and the A591 - the main route through the Lakes.

Enjoy England Gold Award for 2013/14.

About this location

The Lake District

The Lake District is a place like no other. No other region in the world is so packed with such varied and stunning scenery in such as small area– and it's all on your doorstep with easy access by car or rail. The choice of outdoor activities is endless with some of the best walks, climbs and bike rides in the world, beautiful lakes for sailing, canoeing, windsurfing or just a cruise one of several ferry services. The National Park itself encompasses soaring mountains, native woodland (you might see a red squirrel!), lush meadows and of course the many famous lakes themselves. Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter, Ruskin and many more have been inspired by the Lake District and made their homes here. The homes are still here and open to visit and they too are surrounded by majestic mountain panoramas. There also some surprises – kids will love attractions such as the giant i-max screen at Rheged Visitor Centre, Go Ape aerial activities in Grizedale Forest and The World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness. And where better to stay than a classic Lakeland Cottage. Lakelovers have over 400 properties in prime locations within the heart of the Lakes and we specialise in hand-picked properties that we know you'll love. Whether you want a grand property for a family gathering or a cosy bolt hole for two we can't wait to show you what we have for you to choose from. We know The Lakes inside out and we are just a click of a mouse or a phone call away.
