Home description
This property is ideal if you are looking to escape the rat race for a while. It can be found deep in the Irish countryside of North Kerry. A traditional Irish bungalow with thick stone walls has been renovated to a high standard with all modern facilities. There is underfloor heating throughout and a peat burner in the lounge for extra cosiness in the evening. The kitchen is a spacious farmhouse style with all the equipment you might find in your own home. There is one double en-suite bedroom, all the other bedrooms have a basin. The main bathroom has a walk-in shower and whirlpool bath. For rainy days in Ireland, there is also a washing machine and tumble dryer.
The location is an ideal base for days out: the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren, using the ferry from Tarbert to Killimer; Killarney, Dingle, Cork and Limerick are also convenient for a day out. There is a fabulous beach at Ballybunion which is only a 20 minute drive.

The County Kerry region
County Kerry offers a wide variety of leisure, sport and tourist activities to suit any holiday. Particularly prolific are the top class golf courses including Ballybunion and Adare Manor, with courses also at Tralee, Newcastle West and Castleisland. Horse racing is also very popular, with Listowel Race meetings in June and September. The house is offered for B&B including transport to and from Listowel during the September race festival.
Listowel / Moyvane area
The nearest village is Moyvane, three miles away. There is an excellent butcher (Noel Stack), two convenience stores, Post Office, hardware shop and several pubs - all on the same side of the road so you 'don't get run over crossing from one to another' so local folklore says. Nolan's bar (Speedy's) has live music every Saturday night and shows much of the TV sport. There is local transport home should you get swept up with the Irish social life.
Listowel is is seven miles. There are many lovely independent shops as well as the usual supermarkets and numerous pubs. St John's in The Square has an interesting monthly schedule of events such as concerts and touring plays which are always fun to support. Listowel has a long history of literary greats, so Writer's Week at the end of May is always full of exciting and interesting events.
How to get there
The nearest airport is Farranfore (Kerry) which is served by RyanAir and Aer Aran from limited airports. However, the main airport is Shannon, also served by Ryanair from many UK airports and Aer Lingus for international travellers. Shannon is a 90km drive, while Cork is 120km. All the main car rental companies are located at all airports, Hertz is recommended for hassle-free, but also Budget, Avis and Irish Car Rentals to name a few others. For ferry from the UK, the routes are Holyhead-Dublin or Dun Loghaire, or Fishguard to Rosslaire. The drive from Dublin will be about 4 hours with a tea break at Roscrea; Rosslaire is somewhat further. (The spot on the map is not correct - it should be just above Killarney. However, when you click on the map, it does take you to the right place!)

Further details indoors: The house will sleep up to ten people in a combination of adults and children; there is a travel cot and high chair for young children. Downstairs, the green room is double en-suite, the lilac room is twin, the brown room is double. As well as the downstairs rooms, the red room upstairs is a double and there is also a snug room for children. The bed here will pull out to sleep two children very cosily. In this room there is a small TV with DVD and video player so they can watch appropriate films. There is also a box of toys and a bookcase of books - kindly donated by my nephews. There is also a box with body boards and beach games which guests are welcome to use. For larger parties, the table by the stairs opens out and sits nicely alongside the main kitchen table - up to 12 people can be catered for in this house.
Further details outdoors: There is access to the garden through patio doors in the lounge. The patio extends the full length of the house and is a real sun trap on sunny days. There is garden furniture and sunshades and a gas barbecue. For late lazy evenings, there are patio lights. A pretty stone well is a feature of the garden. This is a real well where the residents used to pull their daily supply. It is covered for safety reasons.
The lawn is currently establishing itself (May 09), as are the shrubs in the corner. However, the buttercups are winning at the moment! You will be able to see the dream.
