The West Country / Cornwall region
This is a great location for easy access to many attractions due to fast access to the A38 and A30. Although the south coast is only a 15 minute drive away, the north coast is also a leisurely drive. For this reason you can pick and chose your daily activities from exploring the Looe and Polpero in the south, and the coastal walks, to trekking Bodmin moor or driving down the stunning coastline toward Newquay.
Some of the highlights are certainly visiting the Eden Project, although good for a rainy day. The must do trip to stunning Padstow and eat Rick Steins fish and chips. If you want to try his restaurant then you need to book early. You could also try Jamie Olivers Fifteen just outside Newquay. There are also countless smugglers villages with fudge shops and cream teas, and some of the most beautiful National Trust houses and gardens. Also don't forget you are also close to Devon so maybe try exploring Dartmoor.
The Liskeard / St. Cleer area
St Cleer is very much a living village with its 2 pubs and excellent farm shop. The farm shop is great for a morning walk to get breakfast ingredients and logs for the fire, or top up on the wine you finished the night before. The pubs are also very friendly and have open fires to keep you warm, and they serve pub food. Its good to explore the village on foot and if you are adventurous then climb to the top of Caradon Hill and capture the amazing views from one of Cornwall's highest points.
Liskeard offers very much the facilities you would expect from a small town. There are the usual high street shops such as Boots and the banks are here to get your cash out. There are also several restaurants and take away food places if you want a night off cooking. There is also a large Morrisons for grocery shopping and petrol located just to the right when you enter Liskeard from the A38. You can also get the train from Liskeard.
Recently discovered is Sams, a great seafood bistro in Fowey, that serves food all day, and why not try the seafood restaurat The View at Whitsand Bay which has been winning awards, both a 15-20 minute drive.

Travelled from Paris and London to discover the Cornish countryside and seaside for 10 days but most important to relax with close friends we have not seen for ages. We were quite excited by the pictures of the house on their website which looked like a design gem in and old listed buidling. Located in the heart of the countryside, the house looks stunning with the light on when we arrived by night. My partner spent days taking pictures and we felt like living into a Elle Decoration magazine. Fire place, loads of food, we ended up spending more days inside the house than we originally planned: great open plan kitchen ( there is a supermarket called Morrison within 5 mns drive). We drove around to visit a few National Trust castles which are all located within 20/30 minutes drive, the Eden project which is quite interesting is within 20 mns drive and we ended up having dinner and lunch at Rick Stein seefood restaurant a few times which is a 30/40 mns drive. Well done to the owner for having such good taste. |

We stayed at the Old School House at the end of half term, and had a wonderful time. We used the house as a base to explore the local area and take some surfing lessons on Fristral beach,( about half an hour away). The house was in easy reach of the local shopping area Liskard and also a short walk to the local pub where you can have an evening meal and refreshments. The Old School house was also a great house to stay in, play some games (left by the owner) and generally chill watching the kindle burning in the fire, even on an early summers night. Other local highlights to look into are the Eden Project, which usually has special events for holiday times. We would truly recommend staying here as the house is a joy, well laid out and very clean. We will consider taking our pets the next time as the front gate is secured, and once shut safe to leave minors and pets to play around the garden. |
