The Normandy region
The Normandy region is famous for its picturesque countryside, historical attractions and of course cheese and cider. The D-Day beaches in Normandy are of course a big draw for tourists visiting the area, along with the military museums, cemeteries and other attractions. Don't forget also to make a visit to Bayeux to take a look at the famous tapestry.
The 11th century Chateau de Caen is also an impressive visit with a superb view over the city. Caen was heavily damaged during the war but has been beautifully restored with the white stone that bears its name.
The seaside towns of Deauville and Trouville are very popular, especially with Parisians. Cabourg is slightly nearer to the house and has a nice beach and promenade. Honfleur is a lovely quaint fishing port and is well worth a visit.

The Pays d'Auge area where the house is located is the prettiest area of the Calvados department. As well as the cider route where you can drive past many orchards and lovely villages, there is also a large number of thoroughbred horse stud farms (haras).
Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives is a lovely small town with an excellent market. Livarot is also close by and is famous for its cheese. Further afield is the half-timbered village of Beuvron-en-Auge which is renowned for being one of the most charming villages in Normandy and is great to visit on the way to Cabourg.
The nearest chateau is at Crèvecœur-en-Auge which dates back to the 12th century. As well as events throughout the year, there is a medieval festival in August. The stunning Chateau at Saint-Germain-de-Livet is from the 15th century and is another popular place to visit. It shows the typical architecture of the Pays d'Auge during this time and also has an impressive collection in the museum.
The superb zoo near Lisieux is a great day out for all the family with a huge selection of animals. Lisieux is also home to the Basilica dedicated to Sainte Therese and a train station which takes you directly to Paris in 1 hour 40 mins.
The pretty village of Saint-Julien-le-Faucon is only 1 km from the house and has a renowned bakery (boulangerie), butcher (boucherie), small grocery store, newsagents (tabac), pharmacy, café and 2 restaurants.
