The Burren, bordered by the Atlantic and the quieter water of Galway Bay is a rock garden which extends for about 100sq miles and most of it is bare, pale grey limestone. There are many beautiful and rare flowers in the crevices and pastures.
The Clare Heritage Centre is housed in St. Cahterines Church in Corofin and was built in 1718. The Burren Smokehouse and the Burren Perfumery and flower Centre are both worth a visit. The Aillwee Caves in Ballyvaughan are a dramatic spectacle of nature on the edge of the Burren and a visit is a must for anyone visiting the area.
