The Galway / County Clare / County Clare region
County Clare is ideal for outdoor types with plenty of fishing, walking, cycling and golfing opportunities. The main attractions are the Cliffs of Moher at the rugged Atlantic coast and the fascinating Karst limestone plateau called The Burren. This stretches for miles and is alive with rare and delicate wild flowers. Ennis is the principal town and is a heartland of Irish Music and the site of 15th century Bunratty Castle.
Liscannor / Cliffs of Moher area
Liscannor derives its name from 'Lios Ceannuir', meaning O'Connor's Fort. The ruined castle above the village is another O'Connor stronghold which was granted to the O'Briens by Elizabeth I. Ships of the Spanish Armada sought aid in the bay.
3km north west of Liscannor on the road to the Cliffs of Moher stands a tall pillar, O'Brien's monument (within walking distance of the property) erected in 1853. Near this monument lies St. Brigid's well, the waters of which are believed to have curative powers. Visitors still travel to the well on pilgrimages from Clare and the Aran Islands.
2 miles from the holiday property is the Liscannor harbour village with three good pubs and two hotels, a wine shop, café gallery and supermarket. The nearest local pub is a short 440 yard walk.
How to get there
Liscannor is the village north of Lahinch and south of Doolin. It is on the way to the Cliffs of Moher. It is 57km from both the Galway Airport and the Shannon Airport.
