Remembered by hosting Expo 98, the Park of Nations (Parque das Nações) represents a landmark in the city of Lisbon, as it made an old industrial area reborn into a futuristic glass-and-steel district, home to some wonderful examples of modern architecture and public art.

It is a true modern and urban space along the river! Everywhere you turn is a glimpse of the river looking like an ocean crossed by Europe's longest bridge (Vasco da Gama bridge), water volcanoes erupting, wave-shaped benches, exotic greenery, public art by Portuguese and international artists, cable cars overlooking it all, and an unashamedly avant-garde side of Lisbon much different from its old historical centre. The centre is not far away, though. If you opt not to drive, you will find many public transportation options to take you to the Lisbon downtown centre just a few minutes away.

The riverside promenades and parks are perfect to experience the outdoors and sports, so it's the best place to be if you are travelling on business or with family. There is also wide range of shopping (Shopping Mall Vasco da Gama, with water flowing over the glass roof, is considered the most attractive Lisbon mall), restaurants and services as well as points of reference of art / entertainment very close by. The Oceanarium and the Science Museum are very near, as is the famous Gare do Oriente station by architect Santiago Calatrava. If you enjoy music, Pavilhão do Atlântico hosts major international concerts and shows and will definitely be a place to go. The Casino de Lisboa is also famous and it now offers 1100 machines and 28 tables, as well as a gallery space for art exhibitions.
