The Costa de Lisboa/Lisbon region
Lisbon has a warm climate all year. A cool summer breeze from the Atlantic will refresh you in the sunny afternoons. In the winter the warm temperature invites you for a walk, since it's always around 13ºC. It's a city with over 2000 years of history. It's a city surrounded by beautiful sites: we advise Sintra, Cascais, Arrabida, Mafra, Guincho, Obidos, etc. Lisbon is a city where everything can happen: from the Cow Parade to the Route of the Monuments Festival, to the Lisboa Magic Festival or the First Tall Ships' Race. In June enjoy the Lisbon Popular Festivities, also known as Santo Antonio's Festival, with music concerts, parades and lots and lots of sardines throughout the all month! Monuments, museums, beautiful and quiet gardens or busy commercial streets. A town that will dazzle you with it's life, energy and warmth. For further details, please visit the town hall website http://www.cm-lisboa.pt/turismo/
Lisbon / Central Lisbon area
Mouraria is one of the oldest quarters in Lisbon. Its name, which in a rough translation means "where the moors live", goes back to 1170 when D. Afonso Henriques, the 1st Portuguese king, conquered Lisbon and confined the moors to live in this neighborhood. We can still find some Arab features in the buildings. From the slope that goes up to St. George's Castle, you can get lost in the labyrinth of small streets, stairs and alleys. It's a quarter intimately linked to the Portuguese History: with the first kings it was the home for the Jewish and Muslim people, in the period of the Portuguese Discoveries it was mostly inhabited by the slaves, nowadays it's an encounter of different cultures living peacefully side by side. You can easily find a great variety of shops and restaurants. By the time of Santo Antonio's Festival, all the streets are dressed up with colourful ribbons and balloons, filled with music and people. On this side of the hill you can visit St. George's Castle, Lisbon's Cathedral, the Roman Theater, and many other small churches and monuments.
How to get there
Fly to Lisbon - Lisbon City centre is just 5 km from the airport. Mouraria old quarter is right in the historic city centre, in St. George's Castle slope. From the apartment to Baixa there is only the distance of a stair - Escadinhas da Saúde. From the airport to the apartment the easiest way is to take a taxi, which can leave you almost at the door of the apartment. The entrance to the apartment building is in the middle of one of the many typical stairs you can find all over the historic centre. Being in the heart of Lisbon is well provided with public transportation (buses, trams and subway). The car is not advisable in the historic centre because parking is complicated. The house is located near the subway station "Martim Moniz", and the train stations of Santa Apolonia, Cais do Sodré and Rossio, which will take you to North of Portugal, Cascais coast and Sintra, World Heritage village. In case there's interest in knowing Lisbon's surroundings, it's easy to rent a car for a day or two.

Guestbook
