The Estremadura region
Spread across steep hillsides that overlook the Rio Tejo, Lisbon offers all the delights you’d expect of Portugal’s star attraction, yet with half the fuss of other European capitals. Gothic cathedrals, majestic monasteries and quaint museums are all part of the colourful cityscape, but the real delights of discovery lie in wandering the narrow lanes of Lisbon’s lovely backstreets.
As bright yellow trams wind their way through curvy tree-lined streets, Lisboêtas stroll through the old quarters, much as they’ve done for centuries. Village-life gossip in old Alfama is exchanged at the public baths or over fresh bread and wine at tiny patio restaurants as fadistas (proponents of fado, Portugal’s traditional melancholic singing) perform in the background. Meanwhile, in other parts of town, visitors and locals chase the ghosts of Pessoa in warmly lit 1930s-era cafés or walk along the seaside that once saw the celebrated return of Vasco da Gama. Yet, while history is very much alive in centuries-old Lisbon, its spirit is undeniably youthful. In the hilltop district of Bairro Alto, dozens of restaurants and bars line the narrow streets, with jazz, reggae, electronica and fado filling the air and revellers partying until dawn. Nightclubs scattered all over town make fine use of old spaces, whether on riverside docks or tucked away in 18th-century mansions. The Lisbon experience encompasses so many things, from enjoying a fresh pastry and bica (espresso) on a petite leafy plaza to window-shopping in elegant Chiado. It’s mingling with Lisboêtas at a neighbourhood festival or watching the sunset from the old Moorish castle.

"I would make a return trip to Lisbon just to stay in this apartment again!"
Delightful apartment in a quiet street; well equipped; beautiful decor; lovely little garden - perfect for breakfast and an evening drink; near to a metro station and a reasonably sized supermarket. The two charming young owners were there to meet us and took time to show us how everything worked and gave us tips and advice on restaurants around the area and places to visit. They couldn't help the disappointing weather, but everything else was perfect.

"Number one among all apartments we have visited during our vacations"
A lovely garden of our own in the middle of Lisboa. Kitchen- and bathroome-equipments of almost new and high standard. A peaceful area in the immediate vicinity of the centre of Lisboa. Beautifully restored apartment with large and high and light rooms. A pleasant diningplace outside the apartment, in the garden. An exotic fish-aquarium with a lot of inhabitants in the middle of the verdant garden. Very near to shopping-centres and things worth seeing. Peaceful nightwalks along silent narrow streets. Friendly neighbours, willingly talking and helping us often helpneeding helpless tourists.

"peaceful haven in the city"
The garden really makes this flat. What a boon to start your day there and return to the fresh air and lulling sound of the fish pond. The owner is most helpful: everything is supplied-right down to toiletries! The location is fantastic: next to metro; handy for excellent, reasonably priced restaurants, supermarkets, shops and bars. It's an up and coming district. The flat is roomy, full of mod cons and high tech as well as retaining some period features. A great place to relax.

"Sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtete Wohnung"

"A jewel in the middle of Lisbon"
This is a very well-eqipped and cosy flat with a spacious bedroom and a large combined living- and diningroom. The Internet access is very fast and even allowed us to watch TV in very good quality on the Laptop. The top highlight, however, is the small backyard with a sunny terrace, palms and a pond in which different species of fish are slowly swimming their orbits. You should start with a breakfast on the terrace, and close a long and exciting day in Lisbon with a glass of good wine from the Douro region while observing the fishes in the pond. This truly makes your dreams take off. Filipe, our landlord, was very nice and caring. He helped us in all matters: Early arrival, late departure, nearest supermarket, insider tips for sightseeing, getting the right capsules for the coffee machine etc. etc. Thanks to Filipe, you'll never get lost! For lovers of Indian and Goa cuisine: There is one of the best Indian restaurants of Lisbon just 20 m away on the opposite side of the street. The room for improvement is very small: The cook's kives in the kitchen could have been a bit sharper to allow more cutting and less tearing of our onions and other vegetables. The coffee machine is a bit exotic and requires special capsules you'll only find in a large shopping center a few bus stops away. But this are trivia on the overall balance. We will come back to Filipe's flat whenever we are coming back to Lisbon - that's for sure!
thank you again for staying at my house! I am more than happy to welcome you anytime, again! thanks for the tips about the knifes, I have already taken care of them! ;-) Greetings from Lisbon

The apartment is in a good combination of modern facilities in a classic period property. The location is quiet without being remote from any service. Filipe is very welcoming and responds to requests promptly . You will not regret booking this property.
