Home description
The apartment is located on the 2nd floor of an old historic building in the Baixa district. The apartment was interly repaired on the begining of this year. Being one of the oldest districts in Lisbon, one is overwhelmed by the diversity of its buildings, constructed in accordance with the successive types of architecture through centuries. Wrought iron balconies from the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries can be seen everywhere. In constant dialogue with the wrought iron are the glazed tiles of the facades - a style reportedly brought from Brazil after the 16th century. Being one of the oldest districts in Lisbon, one is overwhelmed by the diversity of its buildings, constructed in accordance with the successive types of architecture through centuries. It is very close to the famous Bairro Alto, a nightlife area, which can be reached by walking down Rossio and Restauradores or by taking the Elevator do Lavra, the oldest funicular in Lisbon. This 120 year old elevator goes every 15 minutes down to Rua das Portas de Santo Anto, the location of many excellent fish restaurants as recommended by many city guides.

The Costa de Lisboa/Lisbon region
Lisbon, the city of seven hills, has been the capital of Portugal since the 12th century. It has a long history that can be experienced in the old neighbourhoods, which may be visited by foot or tram. The Atlantic climate offers wonderful conditions to travel all year round. Lisbon bears the mark of an incredible heritage with laid-back pride. The city also presents an intriguing variety of faces to those who negotiate its switchback streets. In the oldest neighbourhoods, stepped alleys are lined with pastel-colour houses and crossed by laundry hung out to dry; here and there miradouros (vantage points) afford spectacular river or city views. In the centre, black-and-white mosaic cobblestone sidewalks border wide boulevards, and blue-and-white azulejos (painted and glazed ceramic tiles) adorn churches, restaurants, and fountains.
Lisbon / Central Lisbon area
The main feature of Pena is that it is a plateau, from which two main slopes descend, facing Martin Moniz and Avenida da Liberdade. It begins At the north-east of Rossio and extends to Campo dos Mártires da Pátria, commonly known by "Campo de Santana". The streets on the two slopes are twisting and irregular which has led to many beautiful alleys and side streets. Being one of the oldest districts in Lisbon, one is overwhelmed by the diversity of its buildings, constructed in accordance with the successive types of architecture through centuries. Wrought iron balconies from the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries can be seen everywhere. In constant dialogue with the wrought iron are the glazed tiles of the façades - a style reportedly brought from Brazil after the 16th century.

Guestbook for Apartment in historic centre
"We enjoyed our stay in Lisbon living in this apartment. It is a lovely home in the middle of historical centre of the city. The home was very clean and well equipped. Marisa, the nice and friendly owner, took care for everything and was much attentive to our requests. We recommend it warmly."
"Marisa is a charming person, and a helpful host. Very nice and clean apartment is located in the centre, close to everything Lisboa may offer, on a small one way street, with a very low traffic. That means it's a good place to start your discovery and rest after a busy day. Highly recommended!"
The apartment owner was very personable and provided a wealth of information about the apartment and surrounding area. The apartment was far better than I could have imagined. The apartment was the highlight of my visit.
the apartment was FABULOUS! marisa was a wonderful host, the apt was spotless and very well-furnished, and even stocked with fruit in the fruit bowl. THANK YOU, marisa!
